Hi from Perth Australia
« on: Thu, 15 January 2015, 02:14:49 »
I've been lurking around for a couple of months now and thought I should introduce myself. Been enjoy the forum a lot.

Jumped in with a black Filco Majestouch 2 MX Browns (wish I got a ninja now) and was quickly seduced by Dolch...  Thanks Henry from http://zealpc.net/ for the great set and fast delivery + Kit-kats! I feel partially complete :)

Also got a Race 2 with Blues... not sure what I was thinking (1.5 Escape & Delete) but I'm converted to Blues.

Loving looking at Artisan caps and all the amazing things people are coming up with. Would love to have a crack and making some. My selfish reason for leaving the shadows is to ask a few tip.

PS... Can I change my profile name?

Hello there, welcome to Geekhack! Sounds like you already have nice keyboard, especially with GMK dolch!  ;D If you haven't already, check out Binge's guide to making artisan caps, and I believe moderators can change your name if you ask nicely, so I would send one of them a pm.

Welcome to Geekhack!

There is already a prominent member or two in Perth!  Most of the rest of us are much further east.

Good choice with the Filco - should last you for years.  And there is no reason why you can't seek a ninja keycap set and replace them yourself.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Always good to see more Perth people on here!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yeah, they say Perth is the most isolated city in the world... drhubblephd you're form Connecticut right?  would be nice to have a short drive to NYC, our closest real city is Adelaide which is 28hrs away!

Great to see other people from Perth and Australia, to TheOtherAdam, exciting re the HHKB, I'd love to check it out sometime! See what all the fuss is about. I'm still not sure if I could live without the arrow keys... maybe I'm missing something tho.

Rowdy, loving the Filco. The reason I'd like to have got the ninja is because it doesn't have the pad printing on the case (Lock, Num, Caps, scroll in Universe Light italics, I could almost live with it if it was Helvetica) It's not a biggie though, I wonder if there's a way to remove it without damaging the case?

IIRC I took that lettering off my Filco with q-tips and some alcohol.

Some would say that was a waste of alcohol :p
