You know, I don't find myself typing even a bit more softly on this keyboard. I've really broken this thing in, to the point where the letter keys are softer and have a significantly different sound to them than the f-keys, and I still hit them harder than a pack mule on boxing day. What?
I don't think I could ever go back to my browns. Maybe with a different keyboard. Sometimes, I'll switch late at night and end up missing the sound and feel of the blues. Always happens. there's no difference in my touch-typing ability from one to the other, but that "bump" feeling is a welcome addition to my life. Seriously. After about a week, I went back to compare them again (the 11800 and the 3000), and the first thing I noticed was the lack of a prominent bump. It's strange cause I type pretty hard and got so used to the tactility that I didn't feel it anymore, it was just in the "back of my mind"... switching back made me notice it right off. It was pretty cool, actually. I was like "oh, damn, where'd my tactical tactile touch turn to?"
it could also be that my brain is linking the sound of the click and the tactile bump together, cause they happen at exactly the same time when you're typing fast. Either way, I like it.
I gotta admit, though, even now I find the sound a little jarring after 3 or 4 hours of typing. It could be a bit lower pitched. I'm curious now as to how much of a difference steel plate mounting makes on the sound/feel of the same switches. I'm thinking about taking one of my Wyse terminal boards, swapping the blacks out for blues, and rigging up a ps/2 or USB setup of some kind. It's probably not within my experience level (I can solder well, but I don't know how to troubleshoot circuit boards). I have a book called '101 ways to use your oscilloscope', but keyboard hacking is not in there. I need a new plan. Maybe I could take the controller out of another keyboard and rig it up to the Wyse easier? I don't know.
Oh, the G80-3000 is a pretty sweet keyboard. I'm gonna buy a couple more in a few weeks, if the deal is still good. I know a couple people that would love one of these under the Xmas tree.
