"not to get it wrong this time" implies that they got it wrong last time. The only fault I could find in my debut set was that the, er, right Shift I think it was the stabiliser inserts would not go all the way into the keycap. A small piece of plastic bag over the stem before insert solved that one easily.
For a debut set, that was bloody fantastic!
That they go to the lengths they are to make the next set even better shows real commitment to the buyers, and I think that's great!
Whilst debut was largely functional, we ended up with lots of little issues that needed to be addressed in a major way, things that only crop up one in every few hundred users as an issue sometimes and take a while to find, these include but aren't limited to
- there were some issues with the underside of the cap, which led to some conflicts with certain sized LEDs, whilst this only affected row 2 keys, we could just change the underside profile of one cap, they need to be uniform to feel and sound correct, so the underside of every single cap has been changed, this means altering literally every mould, it's also a trial and error process to get it exactly right, it requires lots of testing
- ensuring compatibility with sliders for topre users, while this won't affect many in this buy, the sliders and jtk keysets are designed to work together so this required testing and alterations to both products to ensure perfect compatibility and uniform feeling for all users
- the big one people had issues with in debut were the legends, these have been tackled across the board, because the moulds use aren't for individual keys, but for blocks of keys every time you tweak one legend, in can have a knock on effect to others in that block, as a result this is also a long and slow process to get right, it's a fine balancing act that will be fine tuned across several buys but users will see drastic improvements in each
All of these things above also affect each other, you can get one part correct, change something in a different step and all of a sudden the part we had locked in is altered, we want to put out the very best product we can, as when this is locked in and correct, turn around for these buys will be a matter of weeks, the actual time to produce the keys is very small, but we have produced many many keys to get it right
Thank you to the people who support this buy, this is a new manufacturer and it's a huge undertaking, none of us knew this process would take this long, but the product needs to be right, we could have rushed out what would have been debut in new colours, and some would be happy, but the quest here has always been to produce something that can compete in quality with the very best, for a much more attractive price, who these sets will be compared to are very large companies with huge finances and experience behind them with some amazing equipment
Sit tight, we are at the final stretch, and I can't wait to get these out to you guys and then start work on the next iteration
There is an end goal here, and we will get there
