How many here who have tried this board feel like their coworkers would object to the noise? (stock HHKB)

Is it the equivalent of MX Browns?

I used mine at work and everyone noted how much quieter it was than my other keyboard, but my other keyboard has MX Greens,  At home I used to have Browns but I thought the HHKB still was a little quieter than those.

If you have a coworker that would complain about an hhkb's noise then I feel sorry for you because they're probably a pain in the ass. So I think you're good.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

Not here in the US, but I imagine in Nordic countries that it, along with talking loudly to people riding with you on the bus, is punishable by death.

Does anyone game on their HHKB?

I really want one, but the ctrl key is really bothering me, but I like the looks and love the sound more than a realforce.

You get used to the Ctrl placement family quickly. At least I did, and I have decades of muscle memory with the Ctrl on the bottom.

I like where ctrl is, in some games the placement makes it easier to perform certain tasks/movements :)

I have coworkers who type on extremely loud and janky rubber dome keyboards; stock HHKB and Realforce are leagues quieter than what they're using...

Ctrl key placement is one of the best on the HHKB. But I spend a lot of times in vim / (space)emacs / terminal / tmux. So this position of ctrl key is easier to reach all the time.

Gonna call his keyboard Dora now :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Does anyone game on their HHKB?

I really want one, but the ctrl key is really bothering me, but I like the looks and love the sound more than a realforce.

I game exclusively on my HHKB now and i never find myself at a disadvantage.  That said i could possibly see it being an issue if you are an avid RTS player to which i am not.

P.S how the hell did i hit 200 posts already?  I really need to spend less time here and more time catching up on my Steam backlog.

Yeah, of all the keys to be bothered by, control is actually the one that I found to be in an even better spot on the HHKB.

If you need a lot of macros though for RTS or any other game, the HHKB may not be for you.

I think for macros / RTS I'd buy a small board next to it dedicated to it.

Iv'e actually often considered buying a separate numpad for just that reason...however i have yet to find any games i personally play that need one as of yet to justify the purchase.   However working a little more from home these days a Numpad would help doing orders from home...or am i just trying to justify the purchase of one? lol

I do a lot of manual data entry from questionnaires that could benefit from having one of those nice topre numpads mmmmm. But they so expensive!

I've tried the space bar both flipped and not flipped. I really can't tell what the benefit of one is over the other, so I just leave it in the standard position so it doesn't look out of place. Is "the normal layout hurts my thumbs" really an argument for flipping the space bar?
Of course. If it feels better for the person, why wouldn't it be a legitimate argument?

When you flip it, your thumb can sit further back without hitting the edge of the spacebar, allowing for a more relaxed hand position (for me anyways).

Besides this, when I used to flip my spacebar I felt myself hitting it more easily if that makes sense? I haven't had it flipped in awhile though and I don't tell a difference between hand positions.

Whatever feels best to you tbh.

Regarding the space bar - that's something that always irritated me about the new PBT Topre spacebar: They could have fixed it or tweaked it to make it a little more ergonomic - but instead it's the same old madness...

There is a new PBT Topre spacebar? Where can I buy it?

I don't understand what PFU's deal is... like they once made a great keyboard and it stopped there.

You can ask for it in the classifieds or by buying new Realforce keyboards on MassDrop.

They've been doing that, I think. At least, that's how I got my bars.

Technically no.  MassDrop is including PBT space bars to somehow circumvent contract issues with EK; or at least that is my best guess.

Hmm.. so if MassDrop would sell realforce boards with ABS bar they would get sued? Weird..
