Hey guys!  Two months ago this idea came up in my head. I like the Cherry G80-3000s design and looking for a custom one, and some Cherry fans in China cut off the numpad and made it a 87% custom keyboard named J80, but I just missed that. during the long waiting before the round two group buy of J80, I think I should try making a keyboard of my own. Using a GH60 compatible PCB so I don't have dealing with those electronic works, and I can experience difference layouts and switches, GH60 compatible  PCBs are very easy to get one.

Since this is my first time making a keyboard, I made a 3D printing prototype before CNC works, the size is just right for me. then I ordered two CNC prototypes, here they are!

Updates on Thu, 22 February 2018, 23:06:48

Glad to see so many friends likes this degisn! here is some reply to everyone's opinion

Center Mount USB: Yes! the wide top bezel of the cherry's original design is the most interesting part of their keyboards, it's almost a icon of cherry keyboards I think. Due to this wide top bezel, it will make it too deep to get the original pcb's usb port directly. so I extended the original usb port to the center by using a short usb cable with a 90 degree usb plug, the other end is a small screw mounted pcb with a mini usb port on it, the extend usb cable is soldered on the small pcb. And for those who want to make it a bluetooth keyboard, you can find some space to place the bluetooth module and batteries.

WKL blocker: Yes! this is already put in my plan. it will be a 1u blocker for layouts like this:
189487-0

Weights, Engravings or LEDs: I'm going to make this a purely keyboard case. So, There is NO Weights, Engravings or LEDs :thumb: :thumb:

Material: Anodized aluminium for sure, in silver, gray and black? or more colors? Plastic option is a great! but as I known even by small scale manufacture, it needs at leat 500 units, but anyway, plastic is always under my consideration.

Quite elegant. Instead of center USB, wouldn't this have to be a left USB cutout design?

Would the DO60 v0.2.8 60% PCB work? looking for a case.

Center mount is probably for a breakout usb because of the top bezel.

Also, YES!  So much want!

That's what I imagined otherwise. I'd be in for one if this is affordable enough. Please do not introduce weights, engravings, and the like (any non-essential details) to keep it clean and affordable.

Forgot to mention that I'd get two if a WKL blocker option is also available in a way similar to the OG boards.

For a price point, I'm hoping we can hit sub-200. The Revo One case was like 150.

Centered USB mount seems to be a waste of the board as it would kill the pcb compatibility. Also it's unfortunate that we have an expensive 2 piece design which is tray mounted.

As Pwner said, GH60 style PCBs would be compatible with the case because the top bezel space allows for a separate breakout PCB.

Oh sorry, I missed that. The other point still remains, it seems to be a waste to use an expensive 2 part design for a tray mount case

This is awesome. CNC is good and all, but keeping to a similar plastic would be a cool vintage feel for potentially less. Not sure how feasible that is though.

Agree.  It's very simple and classic.  Could this be the plastic case we need and deserve?   :)

Not usually a fan of 60%, but the ode to Cherry makes this one of the best I’ve seen!

Good to see those gorgeous bezels are solid, so we don’t get a CA66 situation again..

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=93685.0

I can't find a detial drawing of this pcb but accroding to those mount holes, I think it is a GH60 compitable pcb, it should fit this 60% G80 case.
BUT, there is a mount hole right to the spacebar on the original GH60, and that can't found on this DO60, it's ok to mount but it might limit your layout choices, you have to avoid the mouting pillar there and some  insulation works might be needed.

I'm interested in the future revisions, when we'll have a TKL version with less wasted space above the f keys.

Heavy plastic would be nice.

What's the cost of the mold for a 60% or TKL version?

I'd 100% dump my KBDfans 5 degree case for this.

Especially a plastic one. I know it sounds weird to want a plastic case, but there really aren't any good looking bezel-y plastic cases out there, and this'd make an EXCELLENT daily driver with a lightweight, durable material.

I bet you could get it machined out of *some* kind of plastic...

I'd totally buy an aluminum one too, though.

So slick and simple, I love it!
All the space for bluetooth integration is super cool too.

this is such a cool project. So we're saying that the center USB doesn't matter because there will be an extension cable from the center of the case to the left USB port on the PCB without having to make any modifications?

I'm so in for this regardless of the material !!! Must have factor 1000x

Will this be compatible with the usual suspects of 60% PCBs like GH60, XD60, Bananspalit etc?

Also: Does topmount mean a single piece tray mount?

edit: just saw above that the GH60 style PCBs will fit

Have been busy for these days, launching a trial or small scale group buy in China. by now, 10 units sold at ¥1588 (around $250). Many friends can't accept with just the case, they hope PCB and plate included in the box. and there is a  problem might killing the PCB compatibility, this design is too thin that there is no enough space below the PCB, only 2.75mm height there. those PCB with a DIP switches or components higher then 2.75mm below it won't fit this case.  wow, there is a long way to go.

Anyway, here are some new photos, hopes you will love it.

I do love it!

How many PCB's that people use often have DIP switches?

I'd rather see a nice slim case with lesser PCB support than a taller case...

Is that trial buy only in China? ;)
