Placebo?

Some say they are smoother than new MX Blacks, some say there isn't much difference.
I like them because they are smooth and the stem is not as wobbly as the Gateron yellow/black switches I have.
Just have to try them for yourself.

Back to the model M. I can't seem to stay away from this board too long, especially after adding some reaper classics  :D

Thanks man. I am actually typing on an HHKB right now as member of the Church of Topre pass around.

I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to try Topre but I'll tell ya... the Ergoclear board w/ thick PBT is amazing. I don't think I could main a board like the HHKB. Switches are too light for my taste and I am not a fan of bottoming out, despite how soft it is on this board.

Yup, xwhatsit really has done an amazing job with his controllers. Ludicrously easy to get working and programmable to the nines.

Victory is a pretty accurate description I think. It's like a crisper Model F with no twang and more tactility. I didn't realize something could feel and sound sturdier than a Model F but these for sure do.

What's so good about vintage blacks. Enlighten me!

placebo hahaha

Placebo?

yeah he's never tried them, so it's all in his head that they feel the same

On the contrary I have never tried the new blacks, just the vintage ones in my g80-1800. What is the difference?

It's the best. Simplistic and very user friendly. The effects and tools you learn in Lightroom translate to Photoshop if you ever want to advance to the next level... but honeslty, I can do everything I really want in LR.

Yeah it's quite nice, though it has some issues with the spacebar sticking and the U key's spring isn't quite right I don't think. It also doesn't work over USB of course, needs tons of reverse engineering.

Product/small item photos and equire (horse) action photography (my GF and friends into horses). The latter for which I need a (super) telelense later on.

Gonna build my own lightbox as well.

What exactly is the deal with primes and why to skip zooms? I'm new to this game.

Over the past couple of years I've tried most of the MX flavors except Clears, and I just received a Pok3r with clears in the mail last week. After lubing the stabilizers, I like it much better than the other switches that I've tried. I'm realizing that I like the stiffer switches, as I always found Reds, Browns, and Blues extremely lacking.

I'm a little disappointed in the tactile bump, as I was expecting it to be much more pronounced than the Browns. Somebody once compared Browns to a grain of sand in the switch, and clears to a very small pebble, and I'd agree. But it feels like you break up the pebble when you get typing fast, as I can't really feel it after I increase my speed. If the bump was extremely prominent, I would love these switches. I debated just selling it off after a couple of days, but it's growing on me a bit and I'll most likely keep it just to customize the keycaps. My daily drivers for work and home are Topre, so the thought of DSA is exciting.

I also bought a used v60 with Matias Click switches this past weekend, and it's in the mail. I have really high hopes...but if I really don't like it then I'll most like go back to my cave with my Topre boards and cry.

I had to practice till I got it just right. I can type really fast now without bottoming out. I would say that the bump is definitely there, but it takes time to keep your fingers relaxed when typing faster. But I must admit.. when I come back to my kul with clears from my 87ub, I bottom out like a monkey.

I find ALPS to be similar to Cherry in this regard: the tactile bump, and even the click in clicky switches, occasionally seems to get lost as speed increases. This effect is much less pronounced on buckling springs, and absent in Topre-style switches, which seem (in a quick test I did just now) to maintain their tactility regardless of speed.

Been typing on the Jane R1 for a few days, built with tactile switches, it's a very nice board. Changing it up a little bit though and using an old favorite for few weeks: LZ-SE, 55g stickered and lubed vintage blacks.

(Attachment Link)

How do you like em caps? Are they worth it? They sure do look friggin sexy!

I love the Retro colorway. Just sad I missed SA Retro, but hopefully someone will sell to me in the classifieds.

When you tire of that Retro set, please remember my standing offer to do lude things to you. Just kidding.  But seriously, anything.

Will do. Glad to see some ppl still like DSA Retro despite how unpopular the DSA profile is here.

No time for gaming lately, so I've been taking the chance to rotate in some 2KRO boards.

Full size wooden case?

Looks great!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Oh, no, I can't take any credit for this one...

It's actually not a 3rd party case at all, but rather a keyboard that was manufactured that way from the start by a little company back in the 90s. Here's an article about them, if you're interested.

The keyboard itself uses simplified white ALPS and works well enough (except for being 2KRO).

What do you guys suggest for me? I work as an Allstate Insurance Estimator. I do insane amounts of copy / pasting, and have to use slow web based software to get quick blocks of text like Unavailable/discontinued. Similar item provided.

I was using my Pok3r for work so I had those programmed in and several macros designed for 1 button alt tab, alt d, ctrl a, ctrl c (copy url real quick).

I know that Autohotkey is probably my ticket but are there any other tools for better copy paste features in web pages, etc? I use Firefox.

I'd love to be able to speed up web page loading time somehow. I've optimized my coax into the house, cat7 cables, arris modem w/ 24 channels (on 150mbps connection lol), ac1800 router, as well as a custom built pc with 16gb 2400mhz / 4790k / ssd.

I have adblock installed in Firefox but any other tips welcome.

Speed up webpage loading? With that setup? Turn the computer on and you'll have fast page loads :))

Only if he's at 4.7ghz and above....  otherwise  it's just average...

It's the best. Simplistic and very user friendly. The effects and tools you learn in Lightroom translate to Photoshop if you ever want to advance to the next level... but honeslty, I can do everything I really want in LR.

Thanks! Lightroom it is then...

Btw not D700, I'm going to buy the D7200 with a 18-140 and a 70-200 f2.8. Can't wait!

I started with the D7000. It was a fantastic camera. Are you planning on doing a lot of product/small item photos? I'd skip zooms and get primes <3

Product/small item photos and equire (horse) action photography (my GF and friends into horses). The latter for which I need a (super) telelense later on.

Gonna build my own lightbox as well.

What exactly is the deal with primes and why to skip zooms? I'm new to this game.

Take my advice with a grain of salt because a) I'm an enthusiast at best and b) it's been a long while since I've read up on photography. I was into it about a year ago and my interest has tapered off. This is due to keyboards + family :)

Zoom lens are for ease of use... for subjects that you can't use your body to frame properly or moving subjects... like sports.. where you need to land a specific shot in a moments notice. I have the 70-300mm IS nikon for this. For sports/horse photography, you want a quality zoom lens w/ image stabilization. That is... if your horse is moving. I actually did a photo shoot for 2 horse owners... one paid pretty well :) I primarily used the 70-300 when she was show boating... running around. For still images, I used 50mm 1.8g. If I had the 85mm, I would've used that. 85mm 1.8/1.4 are some of the best pieces of glass out there... for portraits, etc. The bokeh is unreal. For close-ups, you want a quality macro lens. I'm using a vintage 60mm 2.8D by Nikon but the 105mm is the epitome of macro lenses for most people. Keyboards are pretty large so you may be better off with a 60mm or 40mm... I am pretty sure Nikon produces the latter.

PM me if you want to talk more.

Apologies to everyone else... especially if my info isn't 100% spot on. My photo-game is rusty.

Primes are my bread and butter. They produce sharper images, better bokeh, generally faster to focus, etc. Most prime lenses will out perform even the most expensive zoom lens at that particular focal range.

So, if you're an image quality snob, which is hard to avoid, I'd go with primes. They're also a lot cheaper than the pro level zooms and still usually own them in overall IQ.

Smart 68 w/ GMK Dolch. Hoping to move to JTK Debut or a BoW set soon, though. I love this thing...

Thanks! It's a pretty nice little thing. I've done a bunch of work on the switches (spring swaps, lube, SIP sockets, tuning the sound) and I can't imagine using anything else. I think I may have actually found my endgame, at least in profile. I've also got a White Fox in the mail, so it should be an interesting comparison to make. The carbon fiber plate is also a nice touch. It sounds so good.

so, are the switches hotswappable on that board?  hows the side button is it clicky at all and do you actually use it often ?
