With a GB date announcement on the near horizon (hypehypehype), I have to say that based on the IC results, the aluminum colors will likely be Bushido Red, Space Grey, Blue Steel, and E-White. Cool Ranch had the frostiest response in terms of numbers, so it won't be available on this round. As for polycarbonate; the polycarbonate and aluminum prototypes both feel fantastic and either could be safely made. Initially I was worried about polycarbonate cracking under the strain, but testing has revealed this isn't an issue. A polycarbonate version is still contingent on a final (post-covid19 starting) quote from the factory prior to GB launch, and I am awaiting those numbers now. If both can be offered at a reasonable price, I will offer a PC version alongside the aluminum case version, with Clear or Cotton Candy Pink PC available. I'll let everyone know soon :) Thanks for your overwhelming support on this project; the positive response has been staggering.  :thumb:

Too bad about the cool ranch, that was definitely my first choice. Happy to have the option for any of the others when the gb starts though.

It'd be fantastic if you could squeeze in a full brass version. To burn all the wallets to the ground.

Heh. Cool Ranch is my first choice as well. Or second after the cotton candy PC. But one of each would be nice too ;)

Too much traffic as of now? For what? Any sales going on the site?
Guess the server is hosted somewhere far with minimum performance.
Hope most GBers get the same level of performance.
Otherwise, it's not fair for the folks who doesn't have full speed connectivity.
I believe walletburner initially talked about raffle.
What brought the change?

I guess people are bookmarking the site and such. The page wasn't slow for me, at least when I went in it; and trust me, I have real slow internet. I don't think having slower internet speeds makes it "unfair".

Idk about the raffle, so you'll have to ask wb about that.

Geographic location and the performance of the hosting server contribute toward the speed too.
If the server cannot handle the people hitting the landing page for bookmark, it will definitely impact more remote GBers during the rush hour.
Also when the number is limited, people in different time zone will have less chance to get in from various reasons.
It's not to complain to you buddy and thanks for the information.
I just hope Cajal is not that much popular to think about the situation or the missing last letters bother me until the end of the GB  ;D
Good luck all.

the core idea is that using layers triggered by modifiers and fn keys, you can minimize the number of keys down to bare essentials and minimize how far your hands need to move to type what you need. an 8 is as easy to type on my preferred layout on 40%s as a capital K. it's a different way of typing that minimizes that "hunt-and-peck" moment when you have to be think "ah ****, is ^ on the 4 or the 6" by allowing you to construct a set of layers where you know exactly where it is without looking down. it isn't for everyone, but it's just a bit further down the road than the compromises people make when they move from like a TKL to a 60% keyboard. i write code and daily driver the keyboards that i create, and now all of my keyboards are 50% layouts or smaller. like everything in this community, it's down to preference :)

my bottom row is punctuation on the second layer of most of my layouts, and left spacebar is always my Fn key. that way with left space and maaybe shift I can do everything I need to. I hover around 90-100WPM without difficulty. What are your layouts like?

First time sub-HHKB so having hard time imagining the best make-sense-for-myself layout while I use the missing letters quite frequently.
For me, downsizing is more to remove infrequently used keys instead of better reachability.
Maybe 'fn+right side mod = missing letter' is what I should go with.
If I didn't lose those ones, I was thinking having the left space as backspace and control keys as second layer for fn and num keys, which makes perfect sense for me.
That's why I asked you if you can add those at the very beginning of this IC.
Still Cajal is too attractive so I'm also thinking, if I don't get accustomed to this layout, let's just hang it on the wall  :thumb:

my just right and your just right might not be the same; you'll learn the most about what makes sense for you by doing. i definitely recommend getting a cheap 3d printed or sandwich case 40s in a layout you like and trying it out. you'll figure out what you like and don't about some of the more exotic layouts much faster and cheaper in the long run, and who doesn't need more boards?

next project to be determined. i will be focusing on the task at hand until after the GB closes.

Fwiw, I still tweak my layout almost daily and I've been working on it for about a year.

I've got a Gherkin that I use on occasion, and I have a layout that is totally usable for me (for writing code).  It's just a bit too cramped to make it my daily driver, as I've had to make some compromises that reduce effectiveness, like introducing tap-dance functionality, which slows you down if you're not careful enough.  I don't have anything in between that and 60% at the moment, but I'm thinking that the ortho layout here will feel absolutely luxurious by comparison.  :D

Kailh Hotswap sockets; the standard as far as I know
Thanks! That's what I had assumed, just wanted to verify.

The website doesn't make any mention of ortholinear support, nor does an ortho mapping appear in the KLE layout Imgur page. Maybe I missed an earlier announcement, but was ortho support dropped?

ortho is very much still supported, and has a separate solderable PCB, brass or POM plates available, and the KLE of available layouts can be found in the first post of this IC, which has been kept updated. site is currently being renovated, and its text hasn't been updated in a while. information here is accurate, and you can even find some pictures of the ortholinear prototype earlier in this thread and on my instagram (walletburnerkb). i'll update the website today! thanks for bringing it to my attention.
