Supported Layouts

There will be three plate layout options, semi-fixed. All plates support split backspace and stepped caps. ISO plates may not be available from all vendors.

• Tsangan (7u bottom row)
• ANSI (6.25u bottom row)
• ISO

• If a hotswap PCB is chosen, your kit will come with a Tsangan plate which is the ONLY compatible plate with a hotswap PCB.
• Due to physical key compatibility with the case, an ANSI plate is only an option when choosing a WK top.
• Due to physical key compatibility with the case, WKL and MX HHKB tops will come with a Tsangan or ISO plate, both of which are compatible options.
• ISO only supports a 7u bottom row, but is compatible with all three top options.
• There is no ISO or 6.25u bottom row option for the hotswap PCB. Please refer to the PCB layouts below.

Optimized Plate, the Process, and FEA analysis





Using FEA (finite element analysis) we were able to measure the simulated force on each switch plate hole to see how the plate would react to this force. The maximum displacement was recorded for every switch plate hole and relief cuts were added to the plate (iteratively) to try and make the displacement equal across all switch holes.  The results are measured in max displacement in mm 10^-2.  See the original IRON165 IC for details on how we went through testing methods.

Updates - April 28th, 2022

• Pricing and sale formats has been updated for ALL regions.
• Hotswap can now be chosen as on option with the kit. No need to purchase it separately. This decision was largely based on feedback from you, the community.
• Necessary info has been added to the supported layouts section regarding plate and PCB options.

Updates - April 18th, 2022

• We finally have pricing!
• Custom screws will now be standard. We liked how all screws sat flush on the IRON180 so much that we've decided to continue this evolution by having custom screws made with the spacer built in.
• We're revisiting the carrying case and making improvements. We're ditching the old foam for CNC'd foam and making a few more updates without sacrificing the protection the case provides.
• An upgraded copper bottom will be offered. The feedback overwhelmingly pointed towards copper.

Updates - April 8th, 2022

• Group buy date have been announced.
• Vendors and quantities available have been announced.
• Hotswap PCB will be available as an addon at the time of the group buy. Each IRON160 will come standard with a solderable PCB. This way we can still continue to support all layouts.
• Polycarbonate and polypropylene plates will be available in addition to the forged carbon and aluminum plates.
• Salvun artisan keycaps will be returning.
• Smith + Rune artisan keycaps will also be available in all three board colors (like the ones offered with IRON180).
• Brushed finish has been chosen for the brass, copper, and stainless steel accent weights.
• Solid brass OR copper upgraded bottom, similar to what we offered on the 180. Please fill out the IC form and let us know what you prefer!

Updates - April 3rd, 2022

Upcoming additions to the group buy. We're hoping to finalize many of these options this week.

• Hotswap PCB - we're not sure on layouts or how this will be offered, but we are 100% sure you'll be able to get one at group buy along with your IRON160!
• Brass, copper, and stainless steel accent weights will be returning for this group buy as well. Still deciding on finish options. These will be compatible with IRON165r2 and vice versa.
• Forged carbon plates will be offered as an addon. We're on the fence about offering a second option like PC so make sure to fill out those forms.
• A ton of people want to see an upgraded alternate base option like we offered on the IRON180. Maybe brass or copper? Make sure to fill out the forms.

We’ll be launching a IC form soon to gather feedback about things like Hotswap PCB interest, additional weights for the bottom (brass, copper, stainless) and finishes for them. While a solid brass bottom is most likely not in the works, weights like Iron165 r2 are being discussed.
