Yea that's the only thing...I'm having a hard time justifying buying a Filco since I previously owned one and didn't love it.

Personally, I'd sell them, unless you're adept, have a lot of time, and can somehow modify them to fit a Torpe, which I'm kind of doubting. Not the first two parts, the last part.

The keys can make nifty fridge magnets.

...

I now know what to do with that last MY7000. :) Thank you ripster.

Now to buy a bunch of 1/4" fridge magnets and some Gorilla glue.

I'm also considering getting something (probably a Filco) for the new keycaps but either giving it away as a gift or keeping it around as an extra keyboard.

Edit: the gift idea was for my dad - he's a writer so he types a lot. He types on his Macbook Pro (which has a decent scissor switch keyboard that he likes already) though, so I'm not sure that it'd be necessary...

Decisions decision!

i think you'll just get a few propositions to buy your unused set soon heh.
btw i'm starting to notice the little molding things holding the keycaps were cut off pretty novice like, at least from someone who has played with modeling sets in the past these molds were snipped off by a noob!

it was probably all about the coloring, the orange keys hide the marks well and the darker keys does a good job too.

It's pretty good.  Not as good as 100 mile an hour tape, but nothing much is.  My only complaint is I taped up an old vacuum hose with 100 mile an hour tape and then patched it with gorilla tape when I couldn't find the 100mah roll.  The gorilla tape got gooey and separated after a while, something the 100mah tape never does.

Question about the stabilizer keys: the white pieces fit very loosely (and sometimes so loosely they fall out when turned upside down) in the new key caps. Is there a simple solution to keep them snug inside the key short of gluing them in there?

I have this same issue; just tested the right shift key and the stabilizer inserts are basically falling out, such that if I don't hit the key dead center it doesn't press down.  I'm thinking of gluing them in, but I'm not sure where to get replacements for the original keys if I need them.

Edit: space bar inserts went in fine, btw.

Don't ruin your keys by permanently glueing the stabilizer in.

Scarface recommended this for his SF Metal keys, it works fine for Cherry keys on Filco too:

Use two or even three layers if you must, until it fits tight.

Edit: Obviously apply it to the stabilizer stem, not the keystem for stabilizers.

I just wrapped up the installation of the keyset on my RK-9000.  The stabilizers were a little tricky but the tape trick suggested above worked wonders.  I'm so satisfied.

Yeah, thanks sixty for bringing up the tape mod. I found that the red geekhack key looks better with this color scheme imo. And does anyone else think the spacebar is abnormally sharp?

I seems like the signature plastics key profile is made for a keyboard with taller legs than a filco.

To smooth it down that much you'd have to take off most of the corner wall, which would probably make that part of the spacebar quite thin. I could be wrong, but I'm not going to try it and find out :P.

Worked great here on a tenkeyless Filco.  My Backspace key feels a bit "muted" somehow, although I've checked it twice - but everything works fine once I get used to the slightly different key profile.

The sound on my Filco is pretty radically different; the keys are much thinner/lighter. On the other hand, I actually think I like the lower profile. Seems like it's more efficient without giving up anything.

Haven't installed the whole set yet; not sure if I want it at home or at work.

Here are some blurry cell phone pics!  I agree with the other posts that the spacebar is a bit sharper, and I had a hell of a time getting my backspace on because the stablilizers did not really fit.  I have not noticed too much of a sound difference.  The keys feel really nice!

Is the tenkeyless filco the most popular keyboard on the forums after the Model M? It seems like everybody has at least one, usually two.

Tenkeyless Filco is da bomb. Availability! If Diatec ever release double piece keycaps with quality as good as the rest of the keyboard, that'll be the keyboard to end them all. (For those with fine taste, of course)

Agreed.  I love the look of your keyboard

I actually prefer the sound, key height, and key profile of these Signature Plastics keys over the stock keys from my Rosewill RK-9000.  More than that though, I prefer the sharpness and feel (really, lack thereof) of the legends on these new ones.  Aesthetically, they rub me the right way.

I had a bit of a surprise waiting in for a structural surveyor ... I wasn't expecting them to arrive so quickly. Saved me a trip to the post office ...

I don't know if it's just me, but the texture is reminiscent of the Unicomp keys ?

My pink highlights are no longer quite so in your face :-

And thanks to WhiteRice!
Keyboards: Unicomp UB40T56 with JP3 removed, Unicomp UB4044A, Filco Tenkeyless Brown (with pink highlights), Access AKE1223231, IBM DisplayWriter, Das Keyboard III, and a few others.

Installed mine last night. Thanks, WhiteRice!

The stabilizer inserts fit tightly into the spacebar, but the rest were fairly loose. I installed them without any tape or other mods anyway, and they seem to work okay. Might give that a shot if I run into problems later.

I'm really liking these so far. The texture is great, and I like the lower profile of the keys.

I want a keyboard roof to keep the dust off.  Elitekeyboards is sold out. :/

Lovely day for a GUINNESS

He had nothing positive to say... Something about these being comparable to a child's toy... :P
