Got skryl's Ducky wrist rest and HandStands mouse wrist rest in the mail. But that's not what I'll be posting about! He threw in a set of free MX8100 keycaps.

I was really excited about them, knowing full well that a few caps would be incompatible with a QFR. They're really interesting! Look like lasered PBT for the alphanums and modifiers, and some kind of lasered/pad-printed for the relegendable keys.

A few notes that highlight the charming imperfections of the set, which were probably why he gave them for free:

- Right Shift gets stuck if pushed all the way down. Is this normal of Cherry profile keys?
- Spacebar is entirely just for show, given the non-centered stem. Will have to go back to the QUICKFIRE spacebar.
- Misaligned legends on the alphabet: QTUO3 and Windows keys are really high, while DWSXV are low.
- Some keys are a bit dirty. When I can get around to it, it gives me an excuse try out denture tabs for the first time.
- The set came with an L-shaped enter key so I decided to use the numpad enter sideways, and I kept the 1x \| key.
- Based on the profiles, the set seemed to come with 2 left arrow keys, so I decided to replace them with the numpad arrows.. though these profiles are still quite odd haha.
- PgDn and End keys were missing, but luckily the set included several blank relegendable keys.

Despite it all, it's a damn good set considering I no longer have to feel the oddly-textured legends on the old QFR caps--for free! :D

The stabilisers on the right shift are probably loose, which is what's causing it to get stuck - make sure the white stabiliser inserts have a tight fit. Add a little square of tape if needed.

Incompatible space bars are typical of Cherry sets.

Denture tabs work great - definitely do it.

Other than that, nice pick up :) Looks great with the QFR.

My KMAC should've arrived today, but it got misrouted from Philly (which I live a half hour outside) to another random suburb. I had a brief panic attack that they'd send it all the way back to Vietnam, but now I think it'll be ok.

It really should be fine, the mistake was USPS's, not yours. My guess is it'll get back to Philly tonight, and I'll get it tomorrow.

Stay on top of it!  In my experience, it could end up anywhere once they get confused.  If that thing leaves Philly, call them up ASAP.  Is it DHL?

PBT keycaps from Imsto!  They look nice and thick and they sink like stones.

- Red on Gray (to play mix and match with my RA set.)
- "Cartoon" characters, who look oddly familiar but I am certain violate no... Fair Use!  That's what they are!  I will be using these in an ironic way as a constitutionally-protected satire.  Yep, that's what they be!

Woo-hoo.  Now to choose a keyboard that needs new keycaps!

 - Ron | samwisekoi

p.s.  My 8.5 x 11" keycap checker is indeed a tight squeeze with quality keycaps!
I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

Multi-quote?  To quote a quote within a quote just embed one quote within another.

To quote multiple posts in a row, just click the Quote link next to each post, and each quote will be inserted into the quick reply area.  Then just put a blank line and/or additinoal comments between each quote.

Not sure if that will work if the posts you are replying to are on different pages, but you could always copy/paste the quick reply text onto teh second page before quoting a post on the second page.

Can I buy 1 green switch? =)

I can set you 1 for $free :)

Sweet dude!

How does one multi-quote?

Multi-quote?  To quote a quote within a quote just embed one quote within another.

To quote multiple posts in a row, just click the Quote link next to each post, and each quote will be inserted into the quick reply area.  Then just put a blank line and/or additinoal comments between each quote.

Not sure if that will work if the posts you are replying to are on different pages, but you could always copy/paste the quick reply text onto teh second page before quoting a post on the second page.
[/quote]

I know what is it, I just wanted to make fun of dan for messing up his quote brackets

Damn that the WASD sampler kit does not include an MX green switch.

If I had an MX gren switch, and maybe an MX clear as well, that would be a more complete set - one of each.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
