I've had USPS get my packages all the way to my local post office before sending it somewhere else and then back to my local post office before delivery. Twice this year alone. I also had one package go almost completely around Ohio before entering the state.
Last month, I had a package arrive the next day from the west coast (flat rate box), and a package from one state over took four days.
They're mostly pretty good, particularly compared to the late 80s, early 90s, but when they screw up, it tends to be one of those moments when you wonder what they were smoking, and how to get your hands on it
