"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Did CC release a new batch of them? A year ago, I saw one once, now 2 or 3 in the past couple days!!!

They are all the same.

Clackception.
Looking for CC's!

There is only one of each colour Clack.

CC's magic makes it seem that they appear in several different places at the same time.

Noob question: What makes the salute more awesome than other tricolors?

I don't think it's necessarily better than any other, unless one just likes it more over the others. Your preference is the deciding factor :P

I wouldn't say it's more awesome than other tricolors. I see the response be roughly the same among them all. It's one of the rarer ones, so is more desired is all.

I'm glad the envelope serves some sort of anything to be kept.

And I know exactly how you feel. I used to think that I wouldn't want to have anything more than the Julysicle. Then it was the Candy Corn and Oktoberfest. Now... I have about a dozen of them and want more still.

I don't understand why people always say they don't understand. Most people here are collectors of some sort. We have collections of one thing or another, or multiple collections. I would wager a lot of collectors like to collect things of value. Now, you might not understand why they're so valuable. But they are.

demand because they're works of art.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I can definitely see how these would be considered art.

"Collectors like to collect things of value" isn't really an explanation of why they're valuable, but I understand your point.

Just as Photekq said, demand. Why demand? Because we've created it.

I suppose my lack of understanding has to do with the fact that I've never collected things that don't serve a function, or who's function and price have no correlation.

For instance I collect headphones, expensive sometimes. But the expense can be justified by the fact that they're better than cheaper headphones.

CCs on the other hand have the same exact functionality as a $1 SP keycap. I'm trying to open my mind though, I promise. Who knows, maybe when my Clack arrives I'll have a revelation guys lol.

Function is not the only factor in direct correlation with price.  Other factors can be present.

In this case, looks are one factor. Envy and jealousy are others. Rarity also plays a key.

It's no different than the people that collect paintings. It's all art.
Looking for CC's!

People collect what is of value to them, be that personal, monetary or otherwise. We clearly all find clacks to be valuable in out own ways and so that's why they're desired, as we desire other things in whatever collections we have. The only difference on a forum such as this is that clacks are a common interest, and so will be of more value due to higher demand.

I don't think collecting art is a weird concept though. I just never considered CCs to be art until now.

That's a good explanation.

I'm sure to anyone who's been a member of this community for a while the question "why are clacks so expensive" seems trivial, and maybe a tad offensive. But as a newcomer a $90+ keycap is quite perplexing! I just wanted to hear it straight from the horses mouth. You guys have opened my eyes.

is the oktoberfest supposed to have 'air bubbles'?  I can't tell if it's the camera being noisy or it's real and by design (some pics show it really well, some don't).

Congratulations!  Nice pic too :)
