Pretty sure we're good via PM.

K awesome. Thanks again for all the help! :)
Yea we will be good to go. I messed up by thinking all "like-colored" LEDs shared the same voltage (i.e. one red is the same foreword voltage as any other red) I now know I was wrong and need 1kOhm resistors for our particular red LEDs and our 5000 732Ohm resistors are no good for us....For now...

They're good for the lower colours!!

So I have some 7000MCD Cyan @  4.2-4.6V LEDs, what resistors would I need? Is it even possible to give that much voltage to an LED on an LZ-GH?

Edit: Just found a calculator but need some information. What would the source voltage be, diode forward voltage, and diode forward current be?

your LED provides the diode forward voltage and current.  5v is the supply voltage and 3.4mA is the absolute max supply current per LED.  I recommend aiming for 3.2mA

your LED provides the diode forward voltage and current.  5v is the supply voltage and 3.4mA is the absolute max supply current per LED.  I recommend aiming for 3.2mA

So here is what I plugged in:
Source Voltage - 5v
diode forward voltage - 4.2-4.6
diode forward current  (mA) - 3.2
then for my resistor I get 270-150 ohm depending on the voltage I want. 4.2v 270 ohm, 4.3v 220 ohm, 4.4v 220ohm, 4.5v 180 ohm, and 4.6v 150 ohm.

Any advice on which resistor I should shoot for? These LEDs are Green around @ 3.2-3.6V which is normal keyboard LED voltage I imagine *shrug*

What?  First you say you have cyan 4.2-4.6v leds.... now they're green and 3.2-3.6v ?

I was under the impression that depending on what resistor you put in they would be different colors. At least that is what the Chinese seller on ebay said.

For exampe:
680 ohm resistor giving 3.2V at the LED = visibly green
180 ohm resisotr giving 4.5V at the LED = visibly cyan

I've only ever seen ~.5v variance (ie: 3.0-3.4v) and going outside that cooking the LED.  I've got a few LEDs I could burn up, might be interesting.  Also, if it doesn't burn up it undoubtedly shortens the life span.

Ok, the color changed just slightly... right before it flickered and burnt at ~3.95v.

Maybe they are designed for 4.2-4.6V and when you undervolt them they are green instead of Cyan. I'll test it out and see I guess, as long as it won't kill the PCB or anything that isn't easy to replace like LEDs.

Put a DMM in-line and find out how much current is passing.

A reasonably cheap Craftsman has been my DMM for years now.  Sears (no longer available)

Honestly Harbor Freight or HD or Lowes should have something *good enough*

Yeah, you can get the cheap one at Harbor Freight on sale for $1.99. Works well enough for me.

Haha DMM for $2? And it actually works?

Btw where can I get those aqua-marine or cyan LEDs? Do they also come in SMD?

I was selling them awhile ago, got 1000 of them on ebay from a Chinese seller and I can not find any more for sale. I think I only saved enough for LZ-GH.

Try ebay.  If you can't find any, well, I have a 100ct set of these SMD cyan leds, could maybe spare a few:

If you get your board and the LEDs are super dim... unplug it, hold down the Esc key and plug it in (hold Esc for 5 seconds).

Problem solved.

If anyone ordered a metal grey or black, preferably metal grey, in 84 key and is interested in trading for a red send me a PM. It is in perfect condition without and marks or flaws.

Thanks,

BTW - I also just learned that this sort of reset of the LEDs also will default the KB to an 87key layout (messes up the alt/win/ctrl on the right side)

Mine arrived yesterday but I didn't get to dig in until today. Looks really amazing so far and I can't wait to put it all together, now I just need to decide if I want stickered/lubed vintage blacks, or 62g whites with stickers. Also need to decide if I'm going to dremel my top housings so they can be removed with LEDs still installed.

So he has already fitted all your switches for you?  Have no idea what deal you have had with alaricljs.

I did get a request for shipping but nothing else.  Would it be extremely rude if I kindly ask here, has the keyboard been completed already and if so, can I get some pics of it?

So far I have no information about it's assembly nor any info about the Korean Cherry Clears that were sent to him.  Just need to ask questions and see if there are any answers (has been like dealing with your Pentagon, many questions but still no answers whatsoever).

So far have not gotten any info aside from wanting money for shipping.  Would appreciate knowing what else has been done?

People building these, don't forget to put your PCB mount stabilizers on the PCB before you start soldering on switches.

Yeah, ya only ever do that once. I did it a few months ago. Fortunately caught it after 3 or 4 switchhes were soldered. Another best practice is to use a meter and verify every diode. I built a high quality korean board once only to find two diodes on backwards, was NOT happy.

Are you sure? It came with PCB mount, and when I tried to use my own plate mount the holes were too big and the stabilizers just wouldn't stay.

Anyone get the programming figured out yet. I know Small Fry was close at one point. I can do most of the basic stuff but can't get the LEDs setup the way I want. There were posts asking for help but we keep getting told to go to the mfg's website. Personally, I don't do Korean too well. With this amount of money changing hands it certainly should not be too much to ask someone involved to take a couple of hours and give us an English manual. Am I wrong here?

The problem I am having, after soldering the LED resistors is dimness, as alaricljs mentioned in a post. I can hold down the ESC for 5 seconds while powering up to reset it and get the desired brightness but then I only have basic scroll lock / caps lock functioinality. I am attempting to illuminate the entire F row. I have tried all of the modes in the software but they are too dim. Also, they don't seem to save to the kbd properly, meaning when I unplug and replug they don't come back how they were before. Also, what if the F/W button in the software do?
