Signature Plastics New Site
« on: Thu, 31 January 2013, 11:55:35 »
Looks like SP updated their marketplace site.  They revamped the marketplace and pimpmykeyboard.  New stuff like keycaps display racks, stoner keys, metallic keys, rubber keys, etc.

Looks much nicer than the old site... I'm pretty sure that someone's going to get a bunch of clacks and a display shelf to brag to their friends about how many caps they bought for 300% actual value (assuming they bought secondhand. Not insulting CC's prices).

I spot a couple internet-related caps that would be fun.

Those faded function and number sets are PIMP!

Flat keys! Just what I need for my 86-key ANSI150 Phantom layout and GH60 layout. Illusion of blocks, but a usable winkey/fn switch, if needed. :)

Spherical stoner keys? Yes!

Nice work, SP. Bravo. :D

so does anyone know if the caps on http://www.pimpmykeyboard.com/ are double shot or what?

And can anyone elaborate on the TPU (rubber) and POM (acetal) material choices for the Custom Ctrl Set?
I stay busy with work and family these days, but I'm still around, lurking.

They should all be either Doubleshot or DyeSub (for instance, the Nyan Cat key HAS to be DyeSub) considering they're from SP.

I like the key lock-outs.  I also spy a PBT modifier set in addition to the PBT arrows.  I like where this is heading.. :)

Too bad that set does not contain matching blanks for the winkey spots.

Also, RUBBER keycaps?

Same thing as rubber Lego guns. that would be VERY cool. Not sure how practical, maybe if you type on a mechanical keyboard in the car (provided you aren't driving)...

I'm REALLY curious to know if they are within their rights to reproduce keys with custom legends like Dan's stoner key or any number of the techkeys products.

Ah whoops I see those ones aren't for sale.

It looks like plastic inserts which prevent you from being able to depress the switch.  Seems like its' the same size as a keycap...so the keycap would be hitting the key lockout plastic thingamajigs and not be able to be fully depressed (ie. you can't activate the switch).

But that's just my educated guess.

The keylockouts and the flat keycaps would be nice for a phantom to go from 84 to 86 in a snap, IMO.

The problem with the key lockouts, they only work for pcb mounted boards. They clip right over the switch, and with a plate it just doesn't work. Nor do they work on topre.

Are you sure?  The photo seems to have it installed on a plate mount keyboard.

An Oops! key to fit backspace would be perfect :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's the well-traveled design from the WWW.  Dan's is a bit different and presumably he did not give them access to his design.

I agree.  I would order one right now if they had one.  I am putting an order together.

Currently reading their FAQ, and all their profile .pdfs and stuff.  And finding bugs in their website.  They don't seem to have a vendor forum so I will try to send them an email if I remember.
