G80-5000 is the Cherry keyboard closest to TKL, unless there's some really obscure model that comes closer.

Are SMD or DIP diodes better?

I'm getting a GON 60% NerD PCB.

I don't think there's a difference in function between the two types so neither would be "better". Looks like the PCB will take either kind. I prefer to use DIP diodes because they're easier to handle than those tiny SMD diodes. Plus I haven't taught myself how to SMD solder yet.

I guess the usual decision for me is can I use DIP diodes and not have them interfere with anything else? My Leeku 1800, I don't think I can do DIP diodes and I'm forced to use SMD. There's no holes for the DIP diodes that won't interfere with the LEDs.

Thanks for the replies like always :)

I guess whatever is easier and poses no cons.

Do you mean Cherry branded? If so, no. They use stabilisers. The only one I can think of that uses a switch as a stabiliser is this : http://imgur.com/a/ukoPH [look at the large enter - it has a stabliser + switch with no spring]

POS boards are programmable, so you sort of make the layout with the keycaps - and if you have a cap that sits over two switches, you just effectively turn one of them off in the programming of the board, so in effect only 1 of the 2 switches send a scan code/whatever.
I got boards.

While working on mx clear pcb mounted , I was wondering , why is it so hard to pull the keycaps ofc mx clear stems ?

I find myself using a screwdriver to hold the switch otherwise I end up pulling the stem and spring with the cap (PBT keycaps).

I think the stem is literally just a bit bigger, like the thickness of the cross shape. Don't know why that's the case.

This is why notched plates are the work of the devil.

That's why everyone should have one of these hamblet keypullers. It's like a prybar for caps, never had an issue removing caps.

Hi all: my ducky shine 3 TKL'US layout has developed a strange problem: I have to press ' key I have to press it twice as on the first press nothing happens and then it appears double(after I pressed it twice) (this is after re-installing windows as I rebuilt my waterloop/cooling), it was working fine before.

I have so far updated the firmware to the latest, reset the settings to default, tried other USB ports with no success. Anything else I could try before I contact Ducky?

Sounds like you have either a bad solder joint or need to replace the switch. If you have a multimeter, open the board up, and then check the solder joint. If the joint checks out to be ok, then the switch contacts inside could be messed up and you may want to try swapping out the switch.

Or it could be that somehow, the PCB is somehow shorting and causing your switch to not read properly. My PCB was touching the bottom of the case which was causing problems. I had this on two of my boards and solved it but putting some drawer liner from Target in between the PCB and bottom part of the case.

If you're under warranty (bought recently), I'd talk to Ducky. If you're past that time window, I suggest talking to dorkvader to see if he'd troubleshoot your board.

actually, I take some of that back. just realised that the same happens with the `/ ~ key. one press doesn't do anything and pressing it again comes up double. so definitely a fw or other problem... it would be strange for both these keys to start doing this after I re-installed windows ..and it was working fine before :(

Check your manual to see if there's a dipswitch switch setting that's causing this? Shine 3 has dipswitches I think... My previous guess still stands until I think of something else. But if you've already flashed the firmware and your dipswitches are setup right, I'd at least contact Ducky at see if they can answer your question or help you out. They're responsive on their Facebook page if you've got an account on Facebook.

yep, did just that, seems to be in order, they are all on off as standard.

yup! thanks :) doing that now.
just wrote them an email actually ...I'm curious if the fact that I bought it from Holland and been using it in UK will affect me and the warranty somehow (hope not!!). I hate the UK layout with the short shift on the left so I had to have the US one :-)

You may try unplugging the keyboard. Then, flipping all the DIP switches up, and then back down. Plug the keyboard back in.

This may help...

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

2.1 is an addon set for RA2.0, which is just the second round of Red Alert.

Isn't that just US international layout set in windows? You should be able to make it happen by pressing ' and then pressing space, means you have to double space though. Makes lot of special characters easier to do than altgr + combo's etc. like if you press ' and then press e afterwards, you get é. If you don't like it then change it to US in windows.
I got boards.

Can someone point me to some UV/purple, NOT PINK, leds please.  They can be rectangular or round.  That part doesn't matter as the switch tops are getting modded so I can swap stems and springs without pulling the LEDs or installing sip sockets.

These are going to be for the wifes GH36.  If I can get this thing built she will finally put her Filco on her desk for daily use instead of just dismissed as a spare in the laptop bag.

Yeah but something from a site like digikey or mouser would be better.  I am pretty sure that I can get some cheaper than 50 cents each plus so price breaks for bulk.  Nothing wrong with that site as I have ordered from them before but would like a better price.  Plus, I am going to have to get other parts as well and would rather order all from one site at once to save shipping costs.

The above website has some good info. I used it as a reference when I was looking for purple LEDs.

Is their a reason that you normally see topre as being dental band modded instead of o rings , and is it possible to mod cherry keycaps for topre?

orings don't fit on topre switch stems and no, however the new CM novatouch is a topre board that uses cherry keycaps

Are all cherry PCB mount stabs the same. What I mean is will there be a difference between buying them from Imsto vs Gon?

People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Is anyone here a Taobao agent? I'd like to order something from there, but I can't read Chinese and don't live in China.
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

Well, you have to order the right size (obviously) but there should be no further differences to be aware of.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

It seems that WASD keyboards and Keypop are selling novelty keycaps like the Look Of Disapproval keycap.

Who makes the best version of it? Also, is it OEM profile?

Thankyou.

Just that there are clip-on PCB mount stabs and screw-on. But those last ones are fairly hard to come by and don't really make a difference in most cases. They are simply firmer and feel more solid.

Nope, most likely not.

WASD only does pad printing, Keypop sells doubleshots from SP. Doubleshots are better than pad printed caps.

Both are OEM profile.
