Duck Mini2 GB
« on: Sun, 14 July 2013, 09:46:35 »
Update July 22, 2013

I made a new thread in GB.

Please use it(http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46060.0) instead of this thread.

Thanks.

Update July 21, 2013

Duck0113 decided that he makes a hall for Poker dip switch in Duckmini2 case. Now, you may use Poker 1 PCB, and if the shape of Poker 2 PCB is the same as Poker 1, you may use Poker 2 PCB too. However, since the dip switch hall is not through out the case, you need to detach PCB from the case to adjust dip switch mode.

Duck0113 opens a GB form for Geekhack. You may use it to order. He is going to accept order for a week(by July 29, 2003).
http://duck0113.tistory.com/37
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mY9rhcbbBxJsILAYhgd-eQ1ik3q1v8x_Q3NerqACexg/viewform

Duckmini V2 is in production, and the quantity is limit. I think, 5~8 sets are allowed for Geekhack.
He is expecting that he will be able to ship the items by the end of August. However, the schedule might be delayed if something goes wrong.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any question about Duckmini2 V2.

Thanks.

What caps/stabilizers will fit on the Alps variant?

Edit: This should also be in the GB or IC forum. And upon closer inspection, those caps look like Apple AEK caps. So does the Alps variant take the stabs/caps from the Apple AEK?

The PCB and frame supports Old Dell and SGI alps.
I think the PCB suits for most of all Alps keycaps, but the frame doesn't.

So this is a full keyboard package, not just the case. And it looks like it excludes most 60% keyboards because no area for the DIP switch. Seems like it'll fit GH60 PCB though.

I'm not such a fan of those huge clamps just to act as risers.

I also am leaning towards disliking the block
Without it, you have those screw holes...and it just looks incomplete

Yes it is using Old Dell/SGI.
I think the keycaps in the picture were pulled from SGI.(http://www1.kbdmania.net/xe/6597488)
AEK has diffrent size Capslock and Option keycaps, so it doesn't fit for Duck Mini2 PCB.
Actually, I am now sure if it can use other keycaps except Old dell and SGI.

The pcbs would fit though right? just no access to the dip switch?

And I also remember seeing a numpad or extra keypad attachment on kbd.

I don't think I like the block either, I'd much rather have a solid piece.

I'm gonna try to pick this case up though.

No, the case looks too shallow to fit any board that has the DIP switch. That DIP switch sticks out quite a bit from the PCB, so there needs to be material milled out of the case for it to fit. I would confirm this first before you pick one up if your plan is to use the case for a different PCB than what's included.

Although the GH60 doesn't have DIP switches it does have a button on the bottom of the PCB. Whether it'll work all depends on how big the button is and how high the standoffs are.

if you want use other PCB, maybe you must make a new Plate for it. you can think about Universale plate from GON or Beast for mini layout ;)

Instead of having the brass weights on the inside, the weight is added by the dummy/block that is on the outside. This also serves as a riser.

However, since it doesn't fit most of the 60% out there, it's hard to justify. Might be nice for the GH60, but are we sure it'll fit?

GH60 does have the button instead of the DIP switch, but the button is much thinner. So just from looking at the pics, it should fit both GH60 PCB and plate.

Can someone as Duck0113 how tall the standoffs are?

how are the alps keys stabilized?

Also, if you know what dip switch settigns you want, you should be able to just set them and remove the block. I'd say any case I'm paying this much for, I can afford to modify my ideal pcb to fit it.

In other words, don't let the dip switches limit you.

setting it before removing does nothing.
you would have to remove the dip switch and bridge the connectors of the switches you want enabled.

Yes, I know about DIP switches, and I did mean jumpering the ones you wanted set after removing them. Either that or soldering leads to the switch holes and "moving" them somewhere else. This should be possible, even easy, depending on how it's done.

More importantly: what about ALPS stabilizers?

Duck0113 decided that he makes a hall for Poker dip switch in Duckmini2 case. Now, you may use Poker 1 PCB, and if the shape of Poker 2 PCB is the same as Poker 1, you may use Poker 2 PCB too. However, since the dip switch hall is not through out the case, you need to detach PCB from the case to adjust dip switch mode.

Duck0113 opens a GB form for Geekhack. You may use it to order. He is going to accept order for a week(by July 29, 2003).

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mY9rhcbbBxJsILAYhgd-eQ1ik3q1v8x_Q3NerqACexg/viewform
