CC vs the TOS and more confusion
« on: Sat, 31 August 2013, 20:36:43 »
OK. First of all, I don't want you guys to think that I'm trying to use the TOS to bolster my disagreement with people who love clacks, etc,.

From the TOS

"Images/videos/etc. must not include any act of drug use, condone or celebrate drug use, or even imply drug use."

...

" Any discussion of, or reference to, obtaining; handling; and/or using narcotics and/or illegal use of prescription medications are expressly prohibited (for purposes of this clause, cannabis by-products not relating to industrial use are considered a narcotic)."

How do 'sticky-icky' clacks not celebrate drug use? I've seen a number of other posts here that do the same.

Again guys, I'm curious. Maybe I misread the TOS.

Also from the TOS

"Discussion of bodily functions, whether vulgar or humorous, is inappropriate for these forums."

The number of 7th grade innuendos in some of the threads here...

Also from the TOS

"Images/videos/etc. must not include [...] profanity."

Especially in the 'murica thread, there are lots of images with that stuff printed that pass right through the filter.

I'm probably going to get a lot of grief for posting this, but I'm just curious as to whether I read the TOS wrong.

I am curious about how you define promote. Never even seen CC even mention the name. Never had he have any word towards it. Also, there's a recent GB (with UV dye sub) having a similar logo, why not  aim this one too?

Even if I was really concerned, I really see nothing that was wrong. Selling a key with a logo can't count as promoting anything, unless that thing is promoted directly by the seller and backed by the product itself.

If possible I would like to hear an authoritative answer on this one. I've only been a member for a short while but I've lurked long enough to know this is actually something to resolve.

I would argue that the point still stands, despite what people might think of the arguments used to support them. There are examples of what seems to be violations of the TOS, I won't get too into this discussion, but I think the point being made is valid and would like to see the mod response.

As for my own views on the matter; I'll try to keep them out of the discussion, I simply think that there is a point here and that there should at least be some clarification by a mod.

I don't know what there is to discuss. They're TOS, not to be taken totally literally. They're there for, as Game Theory said, when things get out of hand.

Honestly, if this forum starts moderating 420 clacks, innuendos and pictures with profanity then the site will become pretty awful and I'll probably stop coming here.

Rude.

It was meant to be a glaring hint that this member likes tossing oil into fire in a sneaky way in many instances in the past, and Id love to see some actual keyboard posts instead.  Threads like this have an obvious answer, and I don't see what good they do for the benefit of the forum.

I think the intent of this thread is to clarify if the mods see the TOS as a general guideline or not, as they are the ones moderating the forum after all. I would assume that they are there, as you said, for a general guideline for when things get out of hand, but what you and I think about it is of little importance as it it's not up to us to enforce them.

Couldn't have said it better myself. A heavily moderated forum sticking to TOS to the tee, doesn't sound like a fun place at all. As long as the content isn't aimed to harm anyone, or the forum itself, I think we can take it
lightly.

Since none of the mods have weighed in here, I can do it for them:

The views expressed by people who post photo's on this forum do not reflect the views of the moderators or the founders of geekhack.org.  Any items offered for sale on this forum are not endorsed by the moderators or the founders of geekhack.org.  If you are offended by any content, please contact a mod and it will be reviewed.  However, please note that you may be an overly sensitive weenie, who goes out of his way to find things to be upset about.  In which case, it is you who are the problem, and it is you who should be considered for banishment.

IMO, a leaf on a keycap is an expression of environmentalism and a "get back to nature" lifestyle.  Rugged individualism, and gritty toughness, and general outdoorsiness.   I cannot see how anybody could see a drug reference.  Besides, even if it was a drug reference, it would be to a substance that you can obtain with a prescription in most states, so long as you and your doctor determine that you need to consume said substance for medical reasons.  And I for one, am not going to sit here and let someone insult the integrity of 'Murican doctors, who work the greatest free-market capitalist system of healthcare on Earth.  They are great healers.  They are also kind, caring human beings one and all.

Finally, in all seriousness, it is permissible to argue for a change in current law on an internet forum.  This is called "free speech" and it's protected by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution.  This would fall under the category of "political speech".  And political speech is absolutely protected.  It is not illegal or untoward to put forth a position that advocates overturning an existing law.

You're focusing on the wrong thing.  Even if you're talking about CC:

You still need to grow up and stop using grown up words just because you were told grown ups use them.  It's not funny, it's not cute and it's not endearing.

What a ****.

Because he asked a question about your beloved CC?

Grow the hell up, child.  You aren't funny.  You're not witty, wacky or zany with your asinine out of the blue sex ****.  You're a child that thinks that using "grown up talk" makes you a grown up.
I don't even have a ****ing cc.

You're focusing on the wrong thing.  Even if you're talking about CC:

You still need to grow up and stop using grown up words just because you were told grown ups use them.  It's not funny, it's not cute and it's not endearing.

That's why GH is a sinking boat.

P.S. time to lose some weight!

One, I fixed your personal attack, it was much too small for all the boys and girls to see properly.

Two, a fat joke?!  To me?  Well, ****, you've sunk my battleship.

No wait, I don't give weight (no pun intended) to when grown ups make fun of my weight, why would I give a crap about what a child thinks that asked me about anal and shemales?

Everyone was a child, you were a child, mods were child and I'm still a child. But hey, isn't what you're doing now like a child? Calling people names out, insulting people, etc. Has you got any benefit? I would say no, nothing at all. You're just hurting the community.

You mean "called you out on insulting someone"  But I understand, it's hard to be criticized.
