Gotcha. Keep me updated. Def in the same boat when it comes to sounds. If you are that good with building a silent PC, I'm sure you will come up with a fix for your HHKB. Which silencing method did you use on the kb? What about the stock HHKB sound bothered you in the first place? I don't mind the bottom out or return thock at all.
Will do! I used these dental bands. I usually bring my keyboard with me to school, and I found the return thock a bit too loud for taking notes in class.

Anyone dye sublimated their own white hhkb key caps? I've seen them on ebay, so it
ought to be possible with the right tools.
Peace, love and keyboards.

The only problem that kept me from considering those caps is that I don't know how long the paint would last or if it would blend to the caps next to it :/

Merry Christmas :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Referring to the quality of the dye. I believe they are dye sublimated with heat, the same way legends on pbt are.

Cicada88 do they caps feel any different?

I have some, they feel the same to me. The burgundy ones look fantastic IMO. The Navy ones are pretty subtle.

Thanks for the feedback.

If you guys are interested in ordering any I have free shipping for GH users...check my thread in the artisan forum.  We can also work out specific keysets or deals.

As for the durability?  I have only been making them for 6 months or so, but I have had no complaints or problems with my own.

After they dry, I give them a hard scrub and alcohol bath to get rid of any dye thats left on the surface.  After that there isn't any transfer, and they aren't made with paint at all.  The dye is actually absorbed into the key via heat.  They feel and look stock as far as texture and keeping the matte finish.

No those aren't mine--they look to be a different material than stock PBT.

That's a great color though. I want to try do a color similar to that at some point for escape, function, and arrows.

I can't decide if I want to lubricate the stems on my HHKBp2.

It's noticeably more gritty than my RF87U... but I don't want to somehow ruin it in the process.

I am going to be adding some sound deadening though to see how that affects it -- it's easy to undo, though.

I do want a hhkb now. I want to try it out at least.

I do have a fc660c modded with 55g domes.

I just really want to see if in missing anything with a hhkbp2.

I'd love to try the type-s variant. I'd also like to see how it compares to the dental band mod.

Any one have links to show pros and cons between type-s and the dental band mod based on reviews?

One thing for sure is that the Type-S have longer sliders to accommodate the silencing rings so there're no travel reduction.

Type-S has 3.8mm stroke while normal one has 4.0mm, I guess those use same plungers and O-rings are 0.2mm thick.

So all this time I've been reading the wrong stuff.

No wonder Hypersphere's rings installed on the normal sliders doesn't feel like it reduces the travel distance.

Thanks for the info hasu!

Pretty much.

And the white case has the Type-S marking on the top right. That's about it.

Okay, after using this keyboard for the last 5-6 hours I can honestly say I hate it... because it has ruined MX switches for me. I'm still going to need some time to get used to the layout, but it just feels so good.  :thumb:

I have been using this for about two days now, and I am in love. This thing is heaven right now. It makes me actually want to do my homework and papers. I just love typing with this. Topre switches really are indescribable. It's no where close to a regular rubber dome, and no where close to a mx switch. It has a feel on its own. It just feels like love on my fingers. In terms of typing improvement, I have a better flow and have made far less errors with this board than any of my others. This board just feels beautiful. I don't even fret over bottoming out because it sounds amazing and feels soft. It's like I bottom out on a bunch of soft pads. That pleasant thock and raindrop return. No stabilizers. This thing is amazing.

Actually i also love that..so i have hhbk pro1 & pro2

Since I game on whatever keyboard is plugged in, a 55g is probably out of the question. I don't really have any desire for a firmer switch regardless.

In my opinion, it is nicer to game on 55g topre, than 45g topre. I usually use my 55g realfoce for gaming (over my hhkb)

Less mushy and a more sudden collapse of the dome, makes me feel like the keys are more responsive when gaming.

Ah, gotcha. I've been using mostly MX Reds at home lately, so the HHKB doesn't really feel mushy in comparison to those.

I'll just add my opinion to the mix: I love 55g, but I'm not the biggest fan of 55g HHKB.  It felt mushier to me - just lost the magic that is there in 55g RealForce, which has more of a snap to it.  But lots of people think 55g HHKB is top tier, so you may prefer it.  Just have to try it to see.  ;)

Okay, after using this keyboard for the last 5-6 hours I can honestly say I hate it... because it has ruined MX switches for me. I'm still going to need some time to get used to the layout, but it just feels so good.  :thumb:

I had very similar feelings when I got my HHKB after using ergo clears

Gets even worse when you try a 55g RF

So once I grab that 55g RF I am going to ruin my HHKB too?

No no no, you're going to improve your HHKB through surgery. :)

I wish you were nearby. I want to try out your modded 55g hyperfused lubed hhkb!!!!  >:D

Well the surgery isn't too bad if you resell the donor as a 45g. I had extra 45g domes so I made the donor a uniform 45 and got a ton of money back.

Do we need a Thorpe Therapy thread to mourn the 55g RealForce keyboards that have been sacrificed to bring moar 55g HHKB into the world?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I have 2 HHKB Pro 2
Absolutely love them.
Just upgraded one of them with hasu's alt controller, wondering what mod i should do next?
I love the sound of them, so not sure I can be bothered with silencing them, but may try the dental band method.
What realforce keyboard would people recommend if I wanted to buy a 55g Topre model to test it out?

That's the variable weighting one. If you want all 55g, try messaging him. It runs out of stock pretty fast.

I've seen some other Realforce 55g on eBay. Sorry for the stupid question but what's special about the 10th anniversary edition?

Got a HHKB Pro 2 with these dental bands on the sliders. They're very tiny and pretty thin. I noticed a slight change in keytravel, but it sounds so much better now. No more clack, just thock.

When applying these, the easiest way I found was to first put them around your thumb. Then press your thumb firmly on top of the slider and roll the band from your thumb right onto the slider. This leads to the band being twisted sometimes, but if you press it down all the way it's still going to do the job with little keytravel reduction.

After a few months I noticed that my spacebar was rattling quite a bit. Fixed that by lubing the stabilizer wire and clips with some di-electric grease. It thocks again.

Picked up my HHKB today (first topre board) and oh man... had to change my profile pic because even unlubed it's that buttery smooth. Next up, hypersphere's silencing rings (if and when they restock :P).

Got my HHKB today too and now I want like eleven of these things  :)) They are like nothing I've ever typed on before and I never really understood the snap back that people have mentioned about topre until today. I still have to get through a couple of days of dealing with the backspace button, but it's otherwise an intuitive feel for me. #cantgoback lol
So fancy!
