Aggressive people. Fights. Getting caught by cops after a fight.

Getting all sweaty after cycling in -15. Getting my feet cold after cycling in -15.

Generally, sweating too much.

Forthcoming new year and Christmas holidays.

I just learned that one of my good friends from when I was in grad school committed suicide in Saturday.  I hadn't talked to him in a while, but he seemed to be doing fine.

And I know this is selfish, but what makes it worse is that there is no emotional sadness, just a detached rational or intellectual sadness from knowing that a great guy is no longer around and that others are hurting from him being gone.

Damn, man. I am truly sorry to hear that.

that is selfish to not be emotional?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

The person who I bought my HHKB shipped it in its original box with translucent green bubble wrap around it and that's it. I can't be too mad as I got a great deal on it, but not ideal shipping conditions.

At least you got the original box.

I didn't when I bought mine (secondhand).

Where are you trying to fit the shoe?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So it's New Year's Day. 06:40am. The M42 motorway just outside Birmingham is deserted. I am the only car for half a mile in either direction. The normal speed limit for the motorway is 70mph.

And yet, the Highways Agency in all their wisdom think there is congestion, and have dropped the speed down to 50. And then I get pinged by a speed camera.

**** my whole life. Happy new year you ****s.

It's just the variable speed limit that gets me. They have introduced "managed motorways" everywhere, and this stretch of the M42 is always poorly managed. Every time I drive down it the speed is dropped, be it 8am on a Monday, or 8pm on a Saturday.

Yes, I was doing 65. But I always do 15 over the limit on that road and have never been pinged before. If I actually get sent a fine through, I'm taking it to court.
