I keep getting warned. OnO
You've been a good boy though recently from what I have seen :X
Exactly!

Mods just jelly I'm cooler than all of them.

lesbihonest, it doesn't take much
>.>

Someone did some maintenance last night at work. Should have been routine stuff. Around 1:30am, they decided it wasn't going well so they sent an email. AN EMAIL. I am not checking work email at 1:30 in the morning! Then at 6:30am then call me to say it has been down for hours. Only I was asleep and didn't answer the phone right away. Somehow things got so messed up I had to restore everything from backup...that is like, worst case scenario **** right there. Now everything is all messed up and it is going to take me the better part of the morning to make it right. I was supposed to go into work late today. This is the second time in a row I've been paged on what should have been a morning off.

Hoff, nice sig, big guy.  ;)

Edit: demik, stop getting in trouble!

I didn't do anything!

I went to sleep with about £900 in my bank account on the 30th November... Got a text in the morning of the 1st to let me know that my balance had dropped below the threshold I had set to £32...

Christmas is going to be fun!
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I used to take one day off a month just for me. I'd just go do whatever I wanted, everyone else thought I was at work. You should try that. Actually, I should start doing that again.

I hate planning, though. It bothers me. I get all hyped up and then if **** doesn't meet hype, you are like "why the **** did I get so amped?". Prob a personal issue with me and may not apply to 99.9% of others.

Be spontaneous. Fly to LA and at least try on all of demik's sneakers. And beat the **** out of his car for me (but steal license plate).

This morning my 15-year-old son asked me whether mass shootings had always been common.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

But typically they are only in the nation wide media when there's an agenda to push. People kill other people everyday but we don't always here about it.

Granted this most recent one seems to be out of the ordinary.

They are quite more common today.

4 people were killed here in Georgia but it didn't even make the news because it came in 2nd that particular day.

I wouldn't consider that data set to be perfect.

Database Limitations
Data for the Stanford MSA have been collected periodically not constantly, as time and help are available, leaving occasional gaps in data collection that may go unremediated.

The Stanford MSA aggregates incidents from online media sources only. Data in the MSA spans a time period that includes the transition from traditional media to digital media in reporting. Numbers of incidents per year should at least in part be assumed to reflect this collection methodology, and not just changes in incident frequency.

The Stanford MSA includes only online verifiable incidents with 3 or more corroborating sources for shootings involving 3 or more victims. Victims do not include the shooter, and are not necessarily fatalities.

Identifiable gang related shootings have  been omitted in this collection.

With the increasing rate of media coverage of these events, it's hard to say how much of the uptick is caused by media-induced factors vs increases in actual violence.

I also find it interesting that for whatever reason no one cares about gang related shootings.

I think this definitely is a factor. Things like YouNow, YouTube, Instagram, SnapChat, etc... the whole Look at me thing.

I also attribute this level of violence to not being able have a fist fight without it going on your record and ruining your life.

The whole zero tolerance, tough on crime thing has pushed people to an all or nothing corner.

Also the whole psychotropics thing too.

Exactly.  It just doesn't make sense.  Somehow those people "deserved" it, so we don't count it as a mass shooting?   Don't get me wrong, I do understand the theoretical difference, but it's still a lot of people dying and no one really doing anything about it, at least on a national-attention level.

I also find it interesting that for whatever reason no one cares about gang related shootings.

Like all the shootings in Chicago every day?

I live in Chicago. There are so many unreported. I had a close friend who died because of a gang-related incident (of which he was innocent) and there was nothing reported.

We should still care about them.

3 day long migraine because the geniuses at the best migraine center in the USA decided to test some backwards **** on me compared to original plan
Now I have to figure out my limits for certain meds for the week and try to reverse the goof
Can I please be a test subject for medical marijuana yet?

I wish they would make marijuana legal. This whole business of the government telling me a plant is illegal is stupid.

I hope your migraines get better. :( I've had some pretty gnarly headaches in my day, but what you deal with is crazy.

The push for legalization of marijuana is getting stronger and stronger. It is really only a matter of time.

A fully filled 3TB hard drive just died on me today... really agitated and angry... 3TB of important files, anime, and movies all gone... *sigh* I'm too poor to have multiple backup drives so no, none of it was backed up T__T

Looks like my broke ass is going to have to invest in a NAS and backup drives instead of a new computer upgrade, I was looking forward to... RIP.

Also bothering me is I may have to consider just selling off some of my keyboard stuff now...

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear this. The feeling of having your **** gone and nothing you can do...I've been there, it is terrible.

The cheapest way to home backup (other than mirroring) is to get a second drive, run a nightly sync job to the second drive and be done with it. If you want to get fancy, get two drives and swap them out as needed, taking one off site.

It can be very cheap since the back up drive doesn't need to be fast. It has served me well for years. Home NAS is nice, but usually WAY more expensive.

I like things unplugged in a box in the closet.

About 3 external drives, 1TB each, dedicated to (1) music (2) film (3) documents, or whatever, and you know they are relatively safe.

Double that number if you want to "leapfrog" your backups. It's a chore, and I only do it every few months, but I feel OK about not losing "everything" and not trusting "the cloud" for whatever reasons.

For those that are running large size mechanical drives, learn from my mistake and buy yourself back up hard drives and back everything up... this is my second time experiencing this pain... never again... Whenever I buy hard drives, I'm going to buy 2 at a time from now on and back each one up simultaneously... Seriously worth.

Thank you for your sympathy, and tips! I was looking at NAS options but yeah, too expensive for me. I'm probably best just backing up my hard drives... Looking at HDD prices right now... *sigh* This is the last time this happens to me... it hurts every single time just as much as the first time.

Yeah, I've been doing this with just my primary hdd with OS and everything, but it seems I may have to start doing this with every drive. Back up once a week and put away for safe storage. When you feel the pain of losing all the data, it's worth the extra work, I think... Sigh... I just never thought it'd happen to my largest and newest drive... *sigh*

*nickheller runs and backs everything up.

Yeah, man.. learn from my mistake. Trust me... the pain of losing 3TB's worth of stuff without any kind of log or trace is really painful. I would urge everyone to buy an extra HDD of the same size and just back up everything... I know I would do this without hesitation if I could right now...

I turned on my PC perfectly fine... stepped away for lunch, came back and the external HDD was just clicking.... it was still available in My Computer but it wouldn't open and froze... Man... I'm still pretty mad...

Exactly.  It just doesn't make sense.  Somehow those people "deserved" it, so we don't count it as a mass shooting?
The FBI defines mass murder as murdering three or more persons during an event with no "cooling-off period" between the murders.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

My 3TB drive in Crystal Disk is at Caution level. SMART errors C5(Current pending sector count: 16) and C6(Uncorrectable sector count: 16). It has 15313 power on hours. I need to get a new Drive ASAP. I have 2x2TB, 2x1TB, 500GB and 320GB as spares but that's a hassle. Think I may have to start plugging in extra **** and shuffling stuff around. That's a lot of anime to reacquire.

Also, what's with random adds on Steam? People add me with no message and we don't have any friends in common and don't even share the same games. Annoying.

Trust me, bro... do it... or else you'll lose over a TB worth of anime like I did... it hurts more when they're ones you have yet to watch and have lost seeds...

How dod you know the Caution levels and the hours it's been powered on? That might have saved me from this blunder... man... Now, I have to drop $200+ just to get a new drive and have backup... but I guess it pays off when a drive dies...
