when your smoke detector is chirping, but you have no 9 volt batteries to shut it up :(

Shoot. That reminds me: I still have to replace the one I took down because we lack the proper batteries...
**** that makes two of us. But first I need to find it >.>

Make that 3. I bought the battery but I still haven't put it in.

Between all of us we can have one working smoke detector

doubtful

this guy can't even take the time to put the battery in

When they get it worked out I need someone to come over to my house and fix all mine on the main floor. I ripped them out in a fit of pique because the ****ers kept going off when I had the oven on. It was like 4 years ago, and I can't bring myself to put them back up. I do have working ones on all other floors.

Been there done this, told the real estate company that they just stopped working and that I was trying to fix them. They sent someone to fix them, happened again.

Then new rules came in and they put these fancy ones in that don't carry on like ****sticks every time you cook

Explosions and gunfire heard in Jakarta. Don't know if we have any Indonesian peeps on here, but I hope everyone's OK.

Edit: And apparently the Sydney Opera house has been cleared out by Aussie police.

Eh it happens pretty often tbh

My office was 100m from the opera house until July last year and seemed like it never freaked anyone out

TIL how many geekhackers it takes to replace a battery in a smoke detector...

1.

Provided you (try to) punch a hole in the wall first.

Those who do not know to what this refers are not established members :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's 41°C outside (106F) and it's just hit 36°C inside (97F).

Up until about 35°C I was fine, just registering that it was warm.

As soon as it hit 36°C, I started sweating.  I have sweat running down my face, my back, my front.

Now I am hot.

Fortunately tomorrow is supposed to be 19°C.

Those temperature swings are just insane.
I thought that being near the ocean had a moderating effect.

Not exactly near the ocean.

Yes, 41 degrees one day, 19 the next.

Today has been cool and raining on and off.

Much more preferable to yesterday.

Last night was a night of not much sleep, and a certain amount of wandering about outside at 1am trying to breath after not being able to sleep in a hot and stuffy room.

It makes complete ****ing sense that our ticketing system at work would LDAP lookup with an account name that HAS NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THE TICKETING SYSTEM.

Nor is it documented ANYWHERE.

I just re-watched "Something the Lord Made" a few nights ago after finding out my roomate hadn't seen it.

I feel like I've had this same experience. You are not alone.

I mean why would anyone document anything, or build and configure something in a way that makes logical sense to another human? Besides, when it breaks, it is YOUR fault anyway!

I thought it was only your fault if you didn't fix it already? :P

Of course whether or not you knew it was broken is irrelevant.

What if we get the members, but aren't established references?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
