I have been SO good. I haven't bought a new keyboard in almost a year now. But an MX-compatible Topre? Resistance is futile. Just futile.

Well played, Carter, well played.

I am looking forward to yet another keyboard in the house. Hopefully there won't be any from OTHER vendors!

Good job.

oh Sam is back !! welcome back !! :D

Hopefully CM will be aiming to build on the success of the QFR, which is one of the most often recommended keyboards I have ever seen.

That has a low price point, and relatively high quality.

Maybe this one will be the same, although they may need to recoup R&D costs and machining costs initially.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Q3=July-Sept
Q4=Oct-Dec

...an MX-compatible Topre? Resistance is futile. Just futile.

Pretty much yeah. Only reason I won't buy one is if they don't offer ISO.

TekSyndicate just released a video on this thing, and you actually get to hear the thing at certain points. Sounds decent.

Also, strange how easily that cap popped off...

Didn't the CM rep know if it was Topre or didn't he want to admit it was?

They just don't want to say it's topre. Except on forums like these who know exactly what they are.

I might be mistaken, but doesn't the Cm Rep ask Logan at 1:40 "Have you ever touched a topre?"

I didn't catch on to that at first to be honest. But if someone asks what it is he will rave on about "High quality Japanese capacitive switch" But of course he just broke down and said topre after Logan said "I don't know man it looks like topre" And kept talking on about topre.

Yeah, very true.  Every video I have seen they seemed to be pushing that description instead of just saying Topre.  Perhaps it has something to do with them trying to market this as a gaming keyboard?

That's what I'm thinking. Can't see any point in CM engineering their own knock off when Topre are happy for other manufacturers to use their design.

This thread mentions Topre a few times in the OP as well and I don't think Carter would do that if they weren't legit switches.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

The sliders are new however and I am curious as to who developed them. They not only have have MX mounts, but cutout for LEDs as well so they are significantly different. I wonder if the same kind of effort and money was spent on these to ensure that they are equally good to original sliders, or if secondary company got permission to make them which might mean that they don't fulfill the key elements which imo make Topre loved.

I don't even know how someone uses a 30/35g key switch in any case. So light man.

Do you think if they capture the same feel as virgin topre, will you transplant them into your HHKB?

Topre keycaps are all currently thin PBT right? I wonder how much deeper (and perhaps quieter) the "thock" will sound with some Cherry profile Thick PBT  :eek:

If it has the same size plungers/sliders thatd be a rad idea.
