Of course, the important question is if any of our DE friends are willing to re-ship any of these decks to us poor Amis, who are dependent upon either the (tiny) trickle of clicky Cherry boards that make it over here, or upon the kindness of strangers....

Start making your e-bay listings CONUS/Canada only, no brokers/reshippers/region-crossing intermediaries until they relent.  While it might be hardball, there is that option if there's something for items only found in the US.  Again, it isn't the best option, but if you really want to make a point of it, go ahead and try.

The only thing worse than this is dealing w/ outfits that only deal with resellers.  IMHO, they're as bad as the worst of trial lawyers and used car salesfolk.

Has anyone seen any KB-5182s lately? These fabled Monterey switches are the one thing that I'd still like to try.

I'm constantly watching out for these, as mine is really well worn. Haven't seen any for two months though.

Well, what are you looking for? I suppose most Germans here are willing to ship stuff over the pond to fellow geeks. The other question is if you're willing to bear the costs. Cheapest shipping option for a keyboard is about $50, plus whatever import taxes and customs fees apply to your place.

Rebranded (unbranded?) Gateway 2000. Never knew we had these with a German layout too. I am not interested in (even high quality) rubber domes, so maybe someone else wants to grab this.

Shot this one. Probably it'll be crap... but I guess it should be interesting enough to justify an investment of €3,83.

Ah, so that was you who got it. Gateway, huh? Good thing I didn't put in too much.

It'll be interesting to see which condition this black rebranded Focus FK9000-or-other arrives in. I hope I get more lucky than with my last attempt in terms of white Alps.

It would seem so, though given the track record of these things, the display is probably only half-working. Some classic conductive rubber connection problems.

Can anyone identify this board? Doesn't really look like a NEC or OKI, it's close to a Fujitsu but the label is different, so at the moment I'm guessing it might be some NMB rubber dome.

Rebranded (unbranded?) Gateway 2000.

Arrived today. It's a Maxiswitch Maxi Touch. Seems this is actually the original, while the Gateway Anykey is the rebranded OEM version.
First impression is mixed: It's a heavy, sturdy rubberdome with metal backplate in excellent condition. Cherry compatible doubleshot keys, made of very thin, soft plastic though. The rubber domes feel rather good, but the sliders have some friction. Not much actually, but if there's anything I find totally unbearable in a keyboard, then it's friction. It's built like a Model M: Plastic-membrane-steelplate sandwich, held together by plastic rivets. In order to apply teflon or graphite to the sliders, I'd have to do a nuts and bolts mod.

This one also arrived today. Turns out it's a FK-3002, which I guess is the 9000's little brother without programmablity but still with a calculator (which happens to have a fully working display). Some impressions are in the latest FK-9000 thread. Looks like I'm not becoming an Alps guy any time soon.

Did anybody here get this one? Seller insists it's a G80-3000HGD (I asked twice), but I've never heard of G type switches. Wasn't willing to pay much for another beaten up Cherry only to solve that riddle though.

I believe I had a HGD board before and it was black MX. I could be wrong though, I have gone through way too many G80s.

METO 8200 Thermal Printer - Includes a special build G81-1000 with double shot ANSI layout keys. These probably are identical to the METO keyboard I own and have international legends added to the US English ones. Great keycaps, super rare keyboard.

Did you confirm that with the seller? All the G81 HAD samples I've seen so far were OEM production, and non-OEM ones were SAD (dye sublimated). That being said, I actually prefer the dye-sublimated ones, as they do not yellow and are much less likely to be worn shiny while still giving the same kind of contrast.

Seems I'll have to update my Cherry dating wiki then.

There are a few hints that you can take from photos alone... dye sublimated and lasered keys are a bit brighter/whiter than the doubleshots, which are closer to the case color. Mucho reflection from under the keys indicates membrane-based boards (usually G81). The pic here is spot on then.

Thanks, that's a good hint, I was actually wondering about the reflection.

I posted an expert question to the Cherry Wiki yesterday, which you might be able to answer:
Have you ever seen a G80-3000 with the Cherry logo printed on the case? All 3000 style cases with logo I've come across so far were G81s, so I'm wondering if the logo is a safe crap indicator on auction photos. I'm aware of course that most G81s don't have the logo either.

I have both a G80 and a G81 with a lasered logo here right now, so going by the logo is sadly not a sure option to tell apart.

Grmpf. Which vintage was that G80? It apparently wasn't an option in 2000 any more.

That being said... I have a G80-1000 with a dye sublimated (I think) logo... my Peacock G81-3004HAD shows they could also do color.

It is not even a vintage board. Its a 2008(?) made board with the newer Vista keys: G80-3000LSCEU-0. The G81 with identical looking case and a lasered logo aswell is: G81-3000LADUS made in 1997.

Light grey... should be a Czech-made sample, right?

That would have been a standard configuration.

Since it's not clear, do these have the old-style (wide-spaced LEDs with label) or new-style (narrow-spaced LEDs with lasered symbols) case?

My 11900 is quite satisfying. Was my daily driver for 2-3 weeks, lasting far longer than any ALPs or buckling spring board. Made me chuff at people who auto-dismiss Cherry blacks.

Looks very much like a Siemens Nixdorf logo indeed, plus a seriously historic design. And it seems this thing won't interface with a regular PC that easily, at least the DIN plug isn't the regular 5-pin type. Sounds like one may want to ask in dafc, or wherever else collectors of old SNI computers may be hanging out.

GAH! WHY IS IT TO GERMANY ONLY?

Do these sellers actually have success doing this? Is the keyboard market in Germany big enough to support sellers not shipping internationally?

Cause most private sellers don't even think of the possibility that someone at the other end of the world might be interested in their old trash?
If you seriously want something from German ebay, you can always ask some local Geekhacker to make the deal for you. Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Well...what do we reckon shipping (via cheapest possible service, assuming the German postal system is reliable?) would be to Ontario Canada?

Something around 20-30 CAD with the purchase price being what it is ends up being manageable. More, not so much... Of course then there's two levels of shipping, from seller to middle person, middle person to me.

Figure youself. DHL=German Post. No idea how much this keyboard weighs, but if it's under 2kg it would be surprisingly cheap: €13,90, without tracking though. With tracking, up to 5kg would be €35.

Basically I just want it so I can stick it to ripster that it is the same switches as my (now half desoldered) numpad. Also I do have a 68K Mac so...there's my other excuse.

:D

DHL is the postal service there? Hmmm.

I don't know how much it weighs so I used the up to 4KG option, and I'm seeing 95,90 EUR. Doesn't look too good.

Edit, ninja'd. Thanks webby :) Looks like it's still the same cost bracket though.

Oh, whoops, I thought that was in-country only. Read again, I see it goes international too.

35 Euros now...not as bad, still a bit much (1 EUR is substantially more than 1 CAD I think? Edit: yeah it's coming to 47 CAD)

Was thinking about it, but sensed it would go over ten bucks and decided it wasn't worth that to me. Besides, I was pretty sure one of the early bids was Sixty's. Wonder how much of a difference the US layout makes for the price. I know I'm not the only one who has a couple German NIB G80-1000s stashed.

Until today, I thought this one was completely insane.

The vintage G80s with a US layout usually go for 150-300 EUR. This is the 3rd I've seen end over 150. A few months ago some US-Layout G80s with Cyrillic letters ended at 250 EUR each.

I'm surprised to see the Marquardt on the same row as the Cherry.  I
thought everyone hated it for the linear switches, making it pretty much
a collector's item as well.

Anybody into Apple boards? I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think the bottom left one is not that common.

Oh so there IS a difference...

And when people say pink, they mean the salmon ones, right?

(presuming top left is salmon, as found in Apple M0116)
