Ohhh these are fun! I loved test driving the Cobra over in my wetshaving forum. May I join the fun?

Thank you so much for offering this opportunity to those who are too afraid to spend more than $150 on a keyboard, without knowing I'd love it.

Beards are best, except for the hairs that drop into the keyboard.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Crosspost:

Been having way too much fun with demik's HHKB. I mean by typing on it. Sad to have to let it go after this week as I won't be able to get one for a few more months, but saving for the Type-S will be werfit.

Initial thoughts:
Felt kind of cheap compared to other boards. The plastic case was an offputter, and its lightness detracted from its appeal.
Typing on it is spectacular, and, although it's 10g lighter than my Realforce, it still somehow feels very sturdy and very solid.

That said, the clunk of the caps against the plastic plate wears my fingers out, which is weird because I don't get that issue with my 55g Realforce. I'm really, really missing a num pad, even if it's one embedded in the board itself like the Realforce or a kustom. The arrows and Backspace get a little taking used to (I usually hit the Backspace with my ring finger, so hitting it with my pinkie is weird).

What I love most about it, though, is the sound. Wondering now if I should go for the Type-S or regular white.

i actually use my ring-finger for the backspace. try it out? :-)
as for the weighting, i had the same issue going to 45g, from 55g, but as i typed on it more i adjusted rather quickly. but that's just my experience!
and if you end up getting one, you could consider hasu's controller to make it fully programmable. then you could put the numpad and fn key anywhere you'd like

also, let us know which one you got ;D

Sorry, BlueNalgene, but I dunno if you'll get it by Monday or Tuesday.

yeah, it being lightweight is it's only drawback IMO.

Or a strength, depending on how you look at it, as it's much easier to carry around.

If you mean that it shifts around on the desk while you're typing, I put a sheet of drawer liner under mine.  Stops it sliding and makes it sound really nice.

How long does USPS take to update their tracking? Dropped it off at the post office around 3 on Friday and it's still not updated.
Sorry, BlueNalgene, but I dunno if you'll get it by Monday or Tuesday.

Should've dropped it off Thursday instead. My apologies.

It usually gets scanned the second you drop it off. If you take it to a clerk they scan it in and give you the receipt.

My post office has a drop-off area, and that's where I put it. The first and last time I asked a clerk, they told me to take it there.
It's the largest post office in Chicago, so I don't know if they just take a bit longer. Usually I'm not concerned when mailing other packages as they go through fine, but, with this being demik's HHKB, I'm a little antsy.

I think you'll be fine. I have another package coming to me since Thursday and it's stuck and the same update yours is.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

Lets all take a moment to say a prayer to the Topre gods.
