Loving the love, but want to make sure no one misses this post, so reposting it on the new page

Ok, heard back, new mockup:

More

Pending changes, nipple on numpad 5 and bastard shift for FC660.  Also requesting text and icon legends (text only on caps if they don't have both) and text only legend on numlock

Once again, if there's any way to slim this down, please, please, please make a comment.  I want to make this as affordable as possible, but right now I expect it to be at the $140 price point some of the other bigger sets are at unless I can find some ways to cut costs and/or trim it down.

Some possible ideas for trimming:

Remove 1u winkeys and turn them into Code or only give blanks as an option.

GMK also confirmed no 6u spacebar at this time.

what layout requires two 1u ctrl and two 1u alt keys? can blanks just be used on those layouts? same goes for 1u winkey, i'm down to see 'code' keys instead.
looks like we have three 1u R4 blanks, do we need 1.25u blanks also?

imho, i like the all-in-one set. hope this doesnt get broken into child sets due to price...

Winkey G80-1800, but with the 6u spacebar gone, I have to see if people want those still as they may cover other layouts I'm not 100% on.  Again, this is a place where I need people to chime in or I'll make an executive decision on it.

My vote would be to yank all the 1x mod caps, you could still fill up a g80-1800 layout with the 1.5x mod's, and get the price down. :)

In terms of cutting the set down I'd suggest:
- R2 - , R3 + , R4 0 and 00
- R4 1u Ctrl and Alt keys
- There's 6 windows key replacements, maybe bring it down to 4 (two 1u and two 1.25u) either CODE or blanks.

You could also bring down the number of ISO keys but maybe consult ISO users.

R4 0 and 00 are for numpads.

ISO is at the bare minimum.  I'm waiting to hear if there's anything else that uses the 1u Ctrl and Alt.

Possible to cut down a few of the HHKB specifics if you are willing to s8de print the legends.

That's true, but then people who never plan on using a HHKB layout have to look at those side printed legends  :p

Here are my comments:

  • 1u ctrl and alt should be removed along with blanks, maybe throw in an extra code 1u there.
  • 0 and the 00 for the numpad also to be removed.
  • Please keep the HHKB as is.
  • +1 on text legends.

I think that 0 and 00 should be kept in the kit. I actually use them, as do those with 1800 layouts.

For good 1800 support the set is missing R1 End, R1 Del and R1 Pg Dn. For that reason I would totally remove the 1u ctrl and 1u alt keys as well as one of the 1u blanks. The 1800 style numpad keys are still used in a few of non-1800 boards, but those would be the next things I would cut if needs be.

Lookin dope brah, love the set!

I would also prefer text + icon mods like you mentioned.
Im slightly confused by is the change in color, but I think I much prefer the colors in the new mockup.

Definitely need one of those, and 140$ seems very reasonable for set like that.
I could personally live without the green esc & enter since they don't go with the new colors as well as da yellows imo tho.

I'd personally be okay with just 1u blanks as an option. I think the only thing to cut costs at this point would be to get the amount of orders to the needed number for extra keys/price drop. Maybe to get orders up there talk to a vendor or two?

Ok, so, unless some people speak up now for other layouts I don't know about, I'll probably be dropping the 1u Ctrl and Alt.

There's no color change, GMK just has really color inaccurate mockups.

Wow didn't know gmk mockups looked like dat.
I like both tbh so Im fine with either way  ;D

For dropping things I would prefer to keep one 1u ctrl and alt each for 75% layouts.
(This way you'll at least get full coverage with correct legends.)
On the other hand using blanks for this scenario wouldn't be to bad either I guess...

Would personally also be totally fine with dropping 1u win for code, so you'll end up with two code instead of just one.

How about:
drop one of each 1u ctrl & alt
drop 1u win keys
(eventually drop one 1u blank)

add one more code key

just my 2 cents

Alright, looking for input on these three:

1. ISO users, would you also like a yellow and green enter key or is that too much with the set?  I didn't include them because I thought it took it from an accent to a slap in the face.

2.  Are people okay with swapping the Windows key for Code and dropping the blanks?

3.  I plan on changing the 1.5u keys to Control, but is there a preference for Ctrl or Control on 1.25u keys?  I know this can be an oddly contentious point.  My inclination is to only have 1u keys read Ctrl.

2. That works.  Each time my Win key changes off the Win logo, it's slightly odd at first and I get used to it.

3. Hmmm, either one works though I'm probably most familiar with seeing Ctrl on Cherry/OEM caps.

3. I'm more used to see Ctrl on 1.5 as shown on my realforce and Control for the 1.75 R3, but I guess it might be fine.

2) I'd prefer a Windows key, but I appear to be in the minority.

3) I prefer 'Control' for 1.25 keys. Ctrl should only be used if the full word doesn't fit IMO

1. Yep, not a huge fan on very contrasty esc/return/enters, so just 1 ISO enter is fine, usually I consider it lucky to even get 1...

2. Yep

3. No strong leaning, but 'control' always feels a little odd. I'd vote for 'ctrl', but I'd rather see either/or than both together.

I've had one request for more ISO enter, more for no chance.  Since ISO enters are expensive, I'll keep ISO as is.

Still undecided on Control v Ctrl on 1.25u, but Control on 1.5u is set.

I may just drop the blanks and swap for Code.  I'm undecided on Win key since I like the Windows logo.  Do I need to keep one blank for odd layouts?

I vote for having the win key as well. Most sets have them for a reason right? Because they're used on lots of keyboards. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay, making an executive decision.

No ISO enters will be added.

1u Winkeys will be Code keys instead, 2 blanks will be removed and one will remain.

R3 PgUp and R4 PgDn are being added.

In the end, it should cover almost every layout while still being pretty affordable.  I'm asking for a quote on it and working with a vendor on a timeline.  If the quote from GMK comes back too high, I may have to cut a little from the less common layouts, but, hopefully, it will have a good coverage.

Here's the link to how it should look now.  The legends will have pictographs, but keyboard layout editor does not let you add them.

Will the code keys be all uppercase like the GMK TA Royal Alpha 610 or just "Code"?

1. Not bothered.  I'm just happy there is ISO support and the UK neededkeys :)

2. As long as there is an option for no windows I'm ok.  Would prefer blanks but Code is ok

3. I prefer Ctrl but it's no going to stop me buying a set

At GMK's rate of speed, it sounds like we've got some more time to set money aside for this :D

Got an email from GMK this morning and was pleased with how things are looking.  They still made a couple of mistakes, but it is looking to be an affordable set with extensive layout coverage at 150 or 250 MOQ.

These colors look fantastic. I am definitely in, not too please with the cyan mods offered else where. I am ecstatic you are even putting an extra bastard shift for the fc660c (yes I own one). With all this said, I am definitely in!!

MD was always a last resort.  I'm talking with a vendor to make it happen.
