ENJOYPBT 3000SAT

Hello. I've been asked by KBDfans to design a set to be produced by Enjoypbt based on the old Cherry G81-3000 set.
So far, it has been decided that it will follow the original design except that it will have Text+Icon modifiers rather than just icons and the Prt Sc/Sys Rq key will be done in green like the original.

I have added a Super, Code and diamond icon OS keys of varying sizes. My rationale is that the Super key was more popular than Code so I've added 1.5u and 1.25u sizes for these. I've added 1u Code instead of Super because 1u the Super legend looks tight on 1u. I have only included 1u diamond keys because they can double up as 1u Fn keys for split R-shift and they are harder to centre on anything larger than 1u during manufacturing.

14/02/2019 - Windows 95 OS key is leading in the google form but I am thinking about adding 1u diamond, 1.25u and 1.5u super keys as well as having 1u and 1.25u Windows 95 OS keys.
25/03/2019 - Added a progress snapshot
26/03/2019 - Updated the preview with the full kit as it stands
27/03/2019 - Added accent keys to the kit. Removed 1u Menu key.
28/03/2019 - Added R4 pipe key and R2 Control key for HHKB layouts. Removed 1u Backspace and 1.5u Fn keys.
01/04/2019 - Split the kit into a base kit + addons with the numpad & additional accents keys.
02/04/2019 - Some corrections made to the kit. Files sent to KBDfans for prototyping.
27/04/2019 - Added renders. Still waiting for samples.
08/06/2019 - Added an ortho kit. Still waiting for samples
16/06/2019 - Photos of samples added
16/12/2019 - Added an "Ergo" kit. Next round of samples has been ordered with a new blue.
12/10/2020 - Kit updated.
23/10/2020 - 40s kit updated.
07/11/2021 - 40s kit updated again. Group buy date set.
08/11/2021 - Added a F13 key.
09/11/2021 - 1.75u spacebar added to 40s kit. 1u and 2u spacebars removed from kit.

I don’t mind the idea of a more grey base as opposed to the usual beige, but please leave the legend colors in tact. It’s just not a SAT set without those sexy, blue front-printed legends

I would like to see the legends from 3000 used over 3004 as well.

I think a beige set would be pretty great. A lot of grey sets coming in development or already out.

Get rid of the horrible homing bars and I'm in. As for colours, my personal preference would be for the OG Cherry look.

That is something that I don't think can realistically be done and I personally like scooped and barred homing keys.

I vote for keeping it as close to OG as possible. Both in terms of legend colors, *and* keycap colors. If OG is beige, then keep it beige. But that’s just my opinion.

Yup. At that point, I'd be considering a name change for the set. I just think there is scope for something new rather than rehashing old sets. Those keysets were made when keyboards were all beige but now there I so much variety that we needn't limit ourselves.

Something like this would probably be best staying as close to the original as you can. Though I must admit it would be cool to see you design an ePBT set that uses icons for all modifier keys and not just the 60% modifiers.

Not that many people have responded yet but text+icons seems more popular so far which is different to the original design. I'd personally prefer text+icon as well so that there are more options to mix and match modifier keys since 9009 already covers beige coloured icon mods.

I agree with this. I don't mind doing a homage to an old keyset, but must we limit ourselves to the same old same old? Slice it up, add some accents in there! Maybe navy blue to match the sub legends, which I believe was mentioned earlier.

I'll be leaving the google form open for a bit longer but so far, it looks like the majority of you want text+icon and with the Czech sublegends of the G81-3000.
I'll start working on the new legends sometime this week.

This is something that I've stressed to KBDfans as well but the samples I've received for Kuro/Shiro has sideprinted legends that are much cleaner than they were for BoW. I agree that it will make or break the set.

I believe they do make them. But their scooped keys happen to also have bars. I would also like scoop-only keycaps, TBH.

Something that I am considering if having win 95 key as the main OS key but adding 1u diamond keys for hhkb layout and 1.5u super keys for WKL where a lot of people use control in hhkb position but it looks odd with 2 control keys on the left side.

Also looking to split the kit into core + numpad like I am doing for Kuro/Shiro.

How does enjoypbt sound? I got a set, a japanese pbt alpha set (not sure if enjoybpt), which sounds annoying high pitched, when compared to gmk abs, or to oem vortex pbt.

I personally like the sound and feel of them but your preferences may be different.

On a separate note, 60 people have filled out the latest form and these are the results so far:

Windows 95 is leading but the diamond key isn't too far behind. What do people think about my previous suggestion of adding 1u diamond keys and 1.5u super keys in conjunction with 1u and 1.25u Windows 95 keys?
