Is this group buy what some people would consider a failure?? I don't know how many people ordered but it seems the retention rate is taking a dip.

Retention rate? All of the orders have been paid in advance. There's nothing to retain...well, there's brand loyalty for Vortex that's going down the ****ter, but that's about it. :)

Well people have been selling their orders based on the fact that they cannot get a refund; the selling price has also been lower than what they paid.

Not true at all. Some people have been selling for a slightly higher price. Also, if you were to buy the keyboard from someone in China right now who has it in stock it would be 145 shipped.

I haven't seen anyone here sell their pre-order for more than what they paid, but I HAVE seen people selling their preorders for full price AND at discounted rates; this also includes spare sets of white keycaps sold for discounted prices.

Selling my pre-order of 1x BROWN Cherry MX with WHITE LED for $105 CAD. That's a whole $5 off!!!!

If someone wants to take over my pre-oder PM me.

My order is:
1x Race keyboard w/ blue leds (mx red)
1x white keycap set

[strike]$150 via paypal and it's yours.[/strike]
Sold to snarlingchicken's friend.

There are numerous buyer's on their thread selling their pre-orders. I would also consider everyone who gives up that pre-order as a lost customer (A), and the person who buys the keyboard from them is a new customer (B), who, would have bought the Race regardless of where they had to find it. If Vortex had been on time with their deliveries as well as production schedule, both customers (A,B) would be in possession of a Race keyboard.

Go back a few pages in this thread. Akimbo sold his for 150. That's more than what the original group buy was for. There have been others as well but this forum has deleted posts on this thread in this past so it's hard to keep track.

As far as Vortex not getting the product out in time, well that's the price you must pay when getting a niche product like this. If there was a tenkeyless backlit to compete with it sold by a reputable USA seller obviously people would go that way. For now these group buys still have their place until manufacturers start listening to what consumers want.

I'm not sure you read my post at all; I posted his order, he sold his for 150 because his order was for BOTH keyboard AND keycaps, he sold this at COST and there was ZERO profit. So what exactly is the price that must be paid? Reputation as I am sure you know is very important in a niche market where there are only a handful of competitors which is why I am sure Vortex has suffered more of a loss than the consumers, the consumers only have to wait, while the more delays and hick ups that Vortex is presented with, the more customers are willing to settle for alternatives which in term is loss revenue. It is in Vortex's best interest to be able to follow their production schedule or at least not announce to the public dates which keep getting changed in order to keep sales.

Although I would not use a TKL backlit keyboard to compare to the race, there is an alternative which is the tg3 BL82 which has a very similar form to the race and while that has sold, it is not the same as the Race. I am by no means advocating that group buys do not have a place, but, compared to the standards that previous and other group buys have created I would say that this is not a front runner for the smoothest group buy due to manufacturing problem, and lack of communication which was NOT due to the creator of this groupbuy =).

Wait, is this Group Buy still happening?  I wrote my purchase off as a tax loss way back in 2011.  If I ever get that keyboard, I'll have to amend my tax return.  But I'm not too worried about it, because I'm pretty sure these things will never be delivered.

moot |moōt|
adjective
subject to debate, dispute, or uncertainty, and typically not admitting of a final decision : whether the temperature rise was mainly due to the greenhouse effect was a moot point.
• having no practical significance, typically because the subject is too uncertain to allow a decision : it is moot whether this phrase should be treated as metaphor or not.
verb [ trans. ] (usu. be mooted)
raise (a question or topic) for discussion; suggest (an idea or possibility) : Sylvia needed a vacation, and a trip to Ireland had been mooted.
noun
1 Brit. an assembly held for debate, esp. in Anglo-Saxon and medieval times.
• a regular gathering of people having a common interest.
2 Law a mock trial set up to examine a hypothetical case as an academic exercise.
ORIGIN Old English mōt [assembly or meeting] and mōtian [to converse,] of Germanic origin; related to meet 1 . The adjective (originally an attributive noun use: see moot court ) dates from the mid 16th cent.; the current verb sense dates from the mid 17th cent.

Many will contend that moot must only be used in the "Law" sense, but it's obviously being used more outside of legal wank circles than in them these days.  :-)

"having no practical significance"

To claim I sold my pre-order at a profit, only to be proven incorrect, then mention that someone sold their pre-order at below cost does not turn my at cost sale into a for profit sale.  So yes, it was moot and yes, I used it in the legal sense.

Moot: An issue presenting no real controversy.[/I]

Did you conduct a legal, but moot trial, i.e. an actual trial, just one outside of the actual legal system?  If not, the it is not the legal meaning of moot.  But let's drop this in iMav's RACE Keyboard sale thread, please.  I was tired and the fish in my head told me to post the definition--I probably shouldn't have done that.

Are you picking up the shipping tab from iMav to you and from you to the buyer?

Also, I think advertising .sigs are banned at geekhack.org; perhaps you meant to go to geekhack.com?  ;-P

HeatWare.com - Heatware.com is a rating site where users of forums (message boards) can write reviews for each other based on transactions they completed.

I'd switch the shipping address from me to the new buyer before iMav ships, and the buyer would pay shipping costs just like if they had pre-ordered. I'm simply selling my pre-order "slot" to anyone who missed out, hoping not to take a loss on any of it.

Not advertising, Heatware is a feedback website used by many forums for trading. I was just linking it to show I'm a reliable trader.

If the issue is moot there would be no trial.

Anyone worried about how they are going to take out their stock keycaps for the white keyset they purchased?

I know I was directed to the wire-puller from somewhere that has it around $6-7USD, and someone provided a picture on how to make some from unbent paperclips.  Captain tried to send me a plastic one, but it got lost in the mail; he advised me to go for the wired one any way.  Out of curiosity, which method or item will you use to remove your key caps?

Don't use the plastic key pullers, they scratch your keys way too easily. Spend a few bucks on a wire key puller, you'll be glad you did. Paperclips work in a pinch, but it's a real pain to do a whole board that way.

We have a shipment date for tomorrow, right?  Any guesses how long it will take iMav to receive them?

considering how long this has been going on, 6 months give or take.. it will ship no doubt about it, but expect half-life 3 to be release concurrently

Out of curiosity, is the placement and size of the right shift key the same on the Pure and Race? TIA

Thanks for chiming in, and what about placement; Does the very left of each right shift start at the same location on either board?

In comparison to the Pure, is the placement of the right shift key located in the same area on the Race?
