New here. Can someone enlighten me as to why these caps are worth so much money? ...Other than the fact that they look amazing.

To be honest, I would never spend that much on a keycap  :p Too crazy for me.

Can't someone else replicate these caps or come up with their own design? It doesn't seem hard for a manufacturer to do.

click clack, the person who makes them, is a very skilled man. He makes them on his own. Take a look at some of the multi-coloured ones. Those aren't painted - each colour is a seperate piece of plastic. Replicating them would be FAR from easy, and anyone who even attempted it would be frowned upon since we all love clickclack, his keycaps, his skill and his attention to detail.

There are loads of other novelty caps - gasmask caps, brobots, etc. but I don't think any of them are quite in the same league as clacks.

His molds are pretty legit. If you ever get a hold of a clack and check it out closely, that ****s factory quality. Clack factory quality. He also spent a long time doing many different iterations on the design to get that simplified, yet visually and universally appealing design and uses ancient secret plastic techniques.

Evan if you think skulls are lame and the caps overpriced, haters still respect the quality and consistency CC puts out.

Well I have no doubt that they can be replicated but like you said the community wouldn't allow for it. Which makes sense.

I noticed some other novelty caps and was able to tell that they weren't of the same quality. I'm just baffled by the prices these things sell for  I wonder how much the first one sold for?

I don't know why you have no doubts.. I think you are underestimating the quality and consistency of these items, as well as how hard it would be to replicate them.

Wow eth0s. Just wow. You have my three favourite clacks, the only three I truly want. The red transparent, silver w/ red eyes and OG tricolour. You have an amazing collection.

Wow, your eyes must be really good.  I can't believe you saw all that in those pics.

Here is another pic u might like:

Show Image

OG Tricolors are out there in some pretty good numbers, and while the demand is high, your chances of finding one are high as well.  But you will almost certainly have to pay some serious $'s for it.

Ruby Red translucents are out there too, but they are much rarer.  But again if you are willing to spend some $$$'s, you can get one.

The silver and red eyes skull is called Terminator T3.  And it's extremely rare, AFAIK.  I have only seen one other one actually.  I have no idea how many were made.  So getting it will be quite difficult.  (But not impossible).

You've almost got as many as Kisakuku!

click clack, the person who makes them, is a very skilled man.

Actually he doesn't quite make them on his own - he has his gnomes to help.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

woot I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
still looking for a member with a black light and a HO clack :D

I just tried it.  Hack Orange Clacks does not glow under UV light.  None of my Clacks did.  But that does not mean it CC can't make a UV reactive Clack in the future.

thanks.
