:'( Terrible news arrived today... but there's a glimmer of hope. Will update in the near future... Hopefully with good news!

Hope everything works out!

Thank you, kind sir!

Your avatars always blow my mind, btw. The 3D, the Oktoberfest, and now the Gumrot. Love it.

This one is kinda sucky at the moment - doesn't really reflect the colours at all.  I'm hoping to try again today - it is sunny so far.

^ rowdy's series of avatars is what someone turns into when they're suffering a hangover.

Heh :))

So what one should be next?

As a newbie the entire clacks thing seems weird from the outside. They seem to be the source of great obsession but they seem to be overpriced and impractical. Also i dont get why people dont just make a negative mold of one and then cast them in any color they would want... they're like a currency that is really easy to counterfeit.... I get why people go nuts for something like dye sub cherry keycaps and the olivietti keycaps. But is there anything i am missing about the clacks?

The fact that the person who makes them is a forum member, a human being and a well respected artist....so recommending people just rip off his work is not a favorable opinion.

He is still active sometimes. Just listen for the *pew-pew* of his laser cannons (and subscribe to the Clack Factory vendor forum).

i guess i am just not getting it. If i made custom keycaps and sell them i think it is normal for people to use the mold i sold them to make their own. i bought an led strip once just to check out how they made it so flat and felxible - ever since i make my own flat led strips.

/edit: maybe time will change my mind.

I think its ludicrous to think that for someone who spends a lot of money, time , effort etc to make custom keycaps that it would in any way shape or form be considered ok for someone to blatantly just copy it and a special kind of crazy for the cap maker to encourage people to rip them off.....

If you made a community cap with the intent purpose of saying hey lets all make these caps etc...that would be different but i don't think i've ever seen that done.

Problem is I don't think the average member would want to or would be able to make caps as the cost to get setup etc and the risk involved depending on how it's done can be quite large.

You would need polymere clay some starch powder, a pbt donor cap, a kitchen oven and  color.
You make a negative resin mold of the keycap and send it out to one user, the users agree to keep the mold for a week or two and then send it off to the next person. you press the clay into the starchpowdered mold. you press the donor pbt keycap on top of it (needs to be pbt due to the melting point of 220°C). you take the donor keycap out of the mold with the clay stuck on top of it and then put into the oven to harden it. once it is cooled down you can spraypaint it. Would be possible and safe (unless you spraypaint your mouth or eath the clay) i guess.

I just don't know....I'd like to see someone try something like this but I hardly doubt the results would be that great....but hey it's keyboard science right?

Also...spraypaint...keycaps....doesn't usually work out well....

hm the spraypaint only came to mind to give the key some color. because of the donorcap not being the same color. maybe those paintkits they sell with that warhammer stuff and other models would be good for this kind of job. and then you would have to seal it. it would be a quite glossy finish tho.

/edit: this is going to be so much easier in the future when every one has a 3d printer and you only share the cad file...

Seems like you've read a little or done this yourself.  I'll just say-- making caps is very time consuming.  Especially in large batches.  If you are so interested in how simple it could be to achieve bacon of hope status for all keycap enthusiasts, then why aren't you posting anything in the Making Stuff Together forums?

Well I'm glad this topic is here.. Just like I've talked with others about their losses in the mail. I guess the time had to come sooner or later with all the buying and trading.. Potentially lost 3 clacks.. 1 super rare, 1 kindof rare, 1 common but necessary for my color theme. It's been almost 5 weeks. No tracking (like an idiot) arggggg wine purple! (%€@#**!), ghost white.. Also a Ho..

That's bad :(

I guess with the number of small packages I've had, I should consider myself lucky to have lost only one PS/2 to USB adaptor.

If you print your own postage online, yes. But if you go the post office not necessarily.

Terrann candy corn blank is my favorite I have 3 of them that I'm not selling ever. Good choice! :)

Everyone else, it is from Cactux from Australia. His listing says free shipping which I did. Tracking $25 extra which I did on other packages and they got here fine. He sent a photo of the package when he sent it so I guess Australia post just doesn't care about non tracked post.... :/ I'm still waiting for it but I have got 2 packages that I ordered after so that's why I'm worried. He did everything right on his end I should've got the tracking though.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Pew pew.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
