I bought one a couple days ago and it'll arrive tomorrow. I'm super psyched but kinda afraid that I won't like MX anymore since I'm in the Orion V2 GB.

I still love my ergo clears even though I really like my HHKB  :thumb:

Reading all these cult like posts makes me want to get a HHKB. Just wish I could try one before buying. Does it take long to get used to the layout?

I went straight from TKL > HHKB and honestly by the end of an evening of using it I was already used to the layout. Now that I've learned it I can switch back and forth pretty seamlessly too.

Congratulations and welcome to the club :)

Thanks! I am already having an HHKB hangover since I am actually in the office today and only have my company macbook.

Also, I just bought a novatouch for a stem swap. I've been reading threads around here and reddit and I just want some senior members to confirm/answer a quick question about the swap:

The non-spacebar stabilizer keys can have the housing taken out completely and swapped with the novatouch ones so I don't have to drill holes? I'm a little confused because some have said that the housings are all part of the case for the HHKB.

Mine showed up yesterday, and I've had some time with it. I think I'm in love, so much tactile buttery smooth feels.. and the sound is amazing. Loud though.

The layout is also amazing, and I've already adjusted to the new backspace location. The arrows and navigation cluster are actually pretty intuitive, which I wasn't expecting.

I'm afraid of hitting \ instead of backspace on my MX boards though, but it's probably worth it for these feels.

I just wanted to share my work keyboard. At home I'm playing around with a Cherry brown and clear and a Matias quiet click to get a feel for which I like best.

But at work I have this guy  :thumb: He is a dome swapped 55g with Matt3o's PBT spacebar. I have a NovaTouch that I plan to someday swap the stems, but not yet. Right now I like the keys that I'm using.

I also purchased some of Hypersphere's silencing rings from eBay. I installed it on just the spacebar and on the left Alt key just to see how they would feel. Popping out those sliders was a really scary experience for me lol, so I don't want to do a full set until I at least replace the sliders with the MX ones from the NovaTouch.

I was scared to do my first silencing rings mod as well but got used to it and learn that the best way to pop those sliders out is to clip the little tabs with a pliers first. The sliders will fall off easily after that.

Thanks. I probably need to try that. Because I have no experience I was doing it a really dumb way.. like really dumb but it worked. I held the keyboard vertical against my chest with my left hand. I had a screwdriver between my chin and the top of the key for "light" pressure. finally with another screwdriver in my right hand i pushed on that little pin and the pressure from the screwdriver on my chin made the slider fall out. The first time right on the floor, the second time i did it directly over my kitchen table top.

The way I did it at first was to put a towel underneath the case (so the sliders won't fly), and just pushed the sliders out with my finger. Chipped my nails and got a sore finger after that though.

just got it in the mail today. not gonna lie, i'm quite underwhelmed. typing on it is nice, and i think it's gonna make a nice gaming board if nothing else, but i think i just gotta give it some time to adjust. i keep hitting ` when i try to backspace. hopefully some cool keycaps are made in the near future so i can deck out my hhkb. i also gotta relearn the modifiers. i think the pok3r's layout is much more intuitive, but trying new things is always fun!

Hmmm ... give yourself a week or two of using it exclusively, ideally, or as much as you can, to become accustomed to the layout.  And the feel.  And the oneness with cup rubber.

I adjusted to the mods almost immediately. I had to flip alt around though, having a Windows key next to the spacebar is too funky, and alt is harder to hit in the 1u position. The arrows and other nav keys on the FN layer are really intuitive! The backspace took a few hours to get used to, but it's not a problem now. I already use control in the caps lock position on all of my other boards, so that was no problem. The next thing I have to tackle is going back to my SSK, and hitting \ instead of backspace.  :))

I love the feel so far though, it's really tactile and smooth. I kind of don't want to use other boards..

I lubed my HHKB last night and it hasn't been the same ever since. If you thought the feels were amazing stock... this is like typing on clouds while ice skating on a butter rink. Even the sound is noticeably quieter. I was contemplating getting a set of silencing rings but after lubing my HHKB, I'm pretty content with where it is! Sounds SO good. everything is better with lube. Everything.  :p

I can't believe it. I use the 2TU 60% MX at work for two weeks. Today, I rotated the HHKB out from the shelf and guess what? I am not used to the Backspace key anymore. It's like my finger muscle is getting very confused!

You don't replace the backslash with backspace on every non-HHKB board? I did it on mine and never looked back since.

I'm using mine on a Mac, plus I use a keyboard at home for maybe an hour a day, compared to an ANSI TKL at work for 9 hours, so it did take me a bit longer to get accustomed to the HHKB layout.

If you already have an HHKB and are up for spending some time/effort you could just do the ironed landing pad mod.

kind of wondering what the 55g topre switches feel like to be honest. the 45g is ridiculously light - and after using my pok3r with mx clears for so long, i've been spoiled. but i can't just drop another $200+ on a keyboard that's just a teeny bit different. i now understand when girls say that two identical shades of lip color/nail polish are different. **** me

It is only a little different but definitely noticeable. I used to make unintentional keystrokes on the 45 with my hammer hands dragging over the keyboard, 55g totally eliminates that problem for me it doesn't feel heavier for me but it definitely feels tighter. I was able to resell the 45 swapped RealForce for 175 so the total added investment was only 30 or so.  :thumb: recommend

don't tempt me man... i don't have much of an issue with fatfingering keys, but the problem is definitely present in a lighter switch like this

Just found out about geekhack. Got a v60 a while ago, and convinced work to expense a HHKB. LOVING it so far. Only problem is when I get back home, I caps lock all the things and keep typing \ or |. Oh well. Time to get some colored modifiers.  ;D

Keep that HHKB habit and change the v60 layout at home! I used keytweaker.

Wow, your work got you an hhkb!? Nice man. I clearly am working for the wrong company.

I also feel ya on the keyboard layout switching from work to home. It totally throws me off at work.

Just got a hhkb for the office and loving it so far. I'm curious about the silencing mod - I have a private office so the sound isn't obnoxious to coworkers but almost bought the type s until I decided I needed a black / blank look. :) for those that have done the iron pad mod, was it worth it?

Welcome to Geekhack!

Generous place you work :)  Although my boss did get me a Ducky Shine a couple of years ago.

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

i'm back with a three-day update just because this is the first day using cherry mx again after three days of solely using my hhkb. i'm a convert. i believe. i bow down to the gods of topre. my pok3r, while having a superior fn layout, feels cheap and the switches feel wobbly. the stability i get from using my topre board... holy ****. i bought a set of dsa caps, though... maybe the different profile is radical enough to change how i feel about my pok3r right now? ah man. my pok3r was my baby. oh well.
Let's get this straight. There is nothing cool about keyboards we're all lame as fk.

phosphoric, i was in the same book about a week or so before. Since then, I've lubed, silenced, and stemswapped my hhkb. I've pretty much gone full in on the cup rubber and am selling my spot on the TGR Jane CE group buy. Gonna keep my Orion V2 spot so my boards will just be HHKB, Orion V2, and a Realforce 55g is coming in next week for me to test out 55g domes for swapping.

so much money spent..

I started out with topre, never tried any MX but I probably will someday. Topre to me is like Apple of keyboard (status, consistent, less customization) while MX is like Android (more flexibility, less expensive, more options in all fronts)

First mech keyboard was a HHKB pro 2  :thumb: Before that it was a regular Dell desktop package keyboard.
Although I learned about the home row way back, the HHKB pro 2 helped teach me it again!!!
Peace, love and keyboards.

I've had my HHKB for about two weeks now, and I've been having some issues with the case squeaking. Anyone experienced similar problems? It was even worse, so I put some paper inside to try and sandwich it a bit. It's not really noticeable while typing anymore, but still an annoyance.

Ours make little click noises if you press hard on the corner, but no squeaks.

Why the hell are you even pressing the corner?
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

I'm just really ocd about it I guess. Was just to demonstrate the sound. The same thing often happens when I press the buttons close to the corners. I think I'll just stuff some cloth or something inside the case, it should fix it :)

It IS a plastic on plastic on plastic board. I'm sorry you have that creaking. It is good that it is less noticeable or just non-existent now when typing. I have OCD about my PC being loud, so everything is silent in that sucker. I'd imagine every keypress making THAT particular squeaking sound you posted would be cause for RMA.

EDIT cuz of your EDIT: Do not accept anything short of perfection from your hhkb. Like I said, we have 2 in our house and they don't make ANY creaking sound; only a click is heard when the top part is pushed against the base.

Then I guess we're somewhat in the same boat. Replaced all my fans with Noctua + watercooled CPU just for reduced noise. I aslo silenced my HHKB just last week, it was then I noticed the issue. But yeah, I just edited my previous post. The problem is basically only the two/three buttons closest to the corner. I'll fix it somehow.

Gotcha. Keep me updated. Def in the same boat when it comes to sounds. If you are that good with building a silent PC, I'm sure you will come up with a fix for your HHKB. Which silencing method did you use on the kb? What about the stock HHKB sound bothered you in the first place? I don't mind the bottom out or return thock at all.
