I just joined the darkside with a new hhkb and I'm enjoying it a lot so far.  I'm still typing ``````when trying to backspace but I'll get it down soon enough I'm sure.  I really want to get a colored arrow cluster now.

The dark grey w/ black print.

Awesome, I have that one as my work keyboard (used to have blank keycaps at work, but that made it hard for pair programming).
Amazing kit, this thread has got me thinking of buying a third. Maybe a white with blanks.

I just got my new HHKB Pro 2  in today!

A couple of questions if anyone doesn't mind answer:
1. If I keep this on HHKB mode in Windows, what function does the modifier next to the spacebar serve? As far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything. Is there a way to remap this key?
2. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO GET ONE OF THESE? I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

Does it count if you use regularly an older HHKB Pro? I've been using it for years at work on my Linux Workstation and its still going strong. :)

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I've heard people say it should act as a windows key, but I myself have never been able to get it to do anything either.

I'd recommend dip switch 5 to swap the alt and modifier positions, makes it way more comfortable to press alt imo. There is also dip switch 4 to remap the left mod to a function key.

When I was primarily a Mac user, I used Karabiner for remapping my RF and other boards to a HHKB layout. Now I mostly use Windows, and I use ATNsoft Key Manager, which I find much easier to use than AHK.

Well, I just got the HHKb in the mail today, and my god, cupped rubber really is something else. This is an incredibly strange feeling that I'm having right now. I don't know how to feel about cupped rubber, or MX anymore... I like it so far, the smoothness is incredible, and I really like the sounds, ugh!!! Getting used to this new layout is going to take a bit, but I'm liking it so far.

Also, it's very stealthy, being that my MX board is bright blue with white keycaps, and this one is black with printed caps.

I bought this board with the intention of selling this, or the MX board, and my decision is now very difficult, indeed.

Did you try "Lite Mode" to get the Windows key to work?  I think that's the setup that works for me (HHKB at home so can't check right now).

:)  Good to hear!  As for the media keys...   I don't think I've had any luck with that.  Don't quote me on it, but I believe those are really only natively supported in Mac OS.  But again, that's just based on what I've seen/heard - there may be a way.

I would totally agree, but my Mx board has Zealios, and it's the first board I ever built, so there is some serious sentimental value there. We will see. Either way, I will definitely be returning to the cupped rubber world as soon as I can afford to keep both boards!

If you get a replacement controller from hasu, his tmk firmware does have media controls that will work with pc.

Thanks! I think I'll get a TKL realforce or something. My gaming habits are too used to having ctrl in a conventional spot. Maybe I'll get an HHKB as a portable board. I think I would rather have a white version too. Something a bit more retro looking. Also, I'm thinking about looking into getting a plate milled from aluminum, then using UHMW polyethylene for the sliders, and sticking all of that in a Pok3r type case. I think that would be pretty cool.

Of course, I'd have to learn CAD first, since I SUCK at modeling things in CAD at this point...

I think I need to take my FS thread down on /r/mechmarket. I'm starting to get somewhat used to this board, and it's just so... good.

GAH!!! I can't decide on whether or not to keep this for serious typing, since it's so darn nice.

I do have one question for all of you HHKB people out there: I own a 60% that I built for myself as my first keyboard build. Anyway, when I put these two boards in the same vicinity as each other, I can't help but think to myself that the HHKB is smaller than my board, despite the fact that they have exactly the same size of footprint. Does this happen with anyone else and other, non-topre 60% boards? Or are you all just too cool to even think about MX compatible boards? /s

I like this thing a little too much. Now I just need to lube up the switches and put something on there to silence it, and it would be perfect. hmmmm... Having an almost silent board would be nice, but if I'm honest, I was kind of planning to use an alps build for that. Decisions decisions! This is hard.

Also, if I'm 100% honest, this post is so long, simply because of how much I'm enjoying the typing experience on this thing... Sorry!

I think I need to take my FS thread down on /r/mechmarket. I'm starting to get somewhat used to this board, and it's just so... good.

I wasn't a huge fan of my HHKB until after I lubed it. Now I can't go back to any other board. Just sayin'. Give it another shot :)

I don't know why people silence their keyboards, unless they plan on using it whilst someone is sleeping in the room. The sound is heavenly.

Also for me to get my windows key's to work i had my HHKB set in '-' mode with both SW1 and SW2 set to ON.

My other HHKB has hasu's alt controller, which is amazing and definitely recommended.
Being able to type on my phone using my HHKB is phenomenal.

Cup rubber never fails :) glad to hear you're liking it. I too own a custom mx board, but I find that they're nearly identically sized.

A sixty keyboard is 15 units width in 5 rows; therefore, unless you have a case with large margins the overall footprint is the same, because the keys on either HHKB, Cherry or ALPS have exactly the same size.

I give it 3 days before that MX board is gone. Succumb to the almighty cup rubber :p
I would totally agree, but my Mx board has Zealios, and it's the first board I ever built, so there is some serious sentimental value there. We will see. Either way, I will definitely be returning to the cupped rubber world as soon as I can afford to keep both boards!

The smoothness here is just something else. like... WOW!

You'll probably end up keeping both keyboards.

And getting yourself a Model M and/or Model F too.

Like most of the rest of us.

HHKB Pro 2 silenced mod with landing pads but i noticed something wrong on ; key
It doesnt feel right to me, this key sounds a bit rattle and produces a click sound, it sounds like the slider hits something before the plate
Could be a landing pad moved out and struggling on the top of slider?

Thanks

Dome could be misaligned. Either way, will have to take it apart again to fix it. I'm at the point where I wish PFU had made the case like the Realforce, three fewer screws to mess with.

Sounds like the spring isn't seated correctly under the dome. Does the key register?

Yes, it does register the key
It was misaligned as keyshley suggested
Its pain in the ass for aligning all dome on the right position to the plate/pcb

It's a lot easier to just flip the keys upside down and stick the domes in those then put the PCB on, than to actually put the domes on the PCB outright.

Another test, still some ''friction''
I think it comes from the spring

My stock HHKB sounds pretty similar to that. Quite a bit of friction, unlike either of my RF 87Us.

Going to lubricate the stems and see if that helps.

Bump.

Make sure you have something on each corner to lift the top board up. That way, the key caps will fall down making it easier to put the rubber domes on then the springs.
Peace, love and keyboards.

I got a couple PBT spacebars for my HHKB. Thought I was going to go all black caps, but I like the red spacebar for now.
