As an absolute beginner I probably just don't know any better, but a lot of his advice seems very practical and helpful and it has kept me from overspending on unnecessary gear.

If you're an absolute beginner then he does have some okay stuff. Gear whoring is really easy with photography equipment. I had over $10k in stuff at one time, so I know far too much about that. As you start to branch out, check out some other photo bloggers out there. David Hobby is good, Scott Kelby has some great stuff on Lightroom, and that book I mentioned above is just about a must read for a new photographer.

Call of Pripyat. Why can't I just walk up the hills. Why do I have to go around.

I am way way too scared to even set foot in the photography scene. I'll stick to my all-in-ones until I get a really nice job so I don't become bankrupt. I've already spent way too much in this hobby, haha.

Call of Pripyat. Why can't I just walk up the hills. Why do I have to go around.

It's a dream of mine to explore Pripyat. Just stay out of that irradiated forest and the coffin and you'll be virtually fine.

Edit: Whoops, I thought you were a local upset you had to travel around the irradiation zone. Then I looked up "Call of Pripyat". That was pretty dumb. Well, no need to waste a post. What bothers me... oh, I've got one.

It's 2 am and these beats are too hot to keep to myself, but I have no friends to share them with. ****.

Undeterred, he puts the volume on max and rolls through town fifteen mph under the speed limit so you can catch as much of experience as possible. Rolling the windows down doesn't change much because the sounds can easily pass through his car as well as thick brick walls, but he does it anyway, just so you know he's dedicated. He's certain the people trying to sleep in the apartments he's driving by will be impressed by the four 15" subwoofers lining his back glass, or maybe he just doesn't give a ****.

He looks like I can take him, but also I'm pretty sure I can get expelled and/or stabbed.

Man, Pripyat is like one of the most badass places on the planet.

Exploring the sarcophagus itself would be almost worth it. See this? It's a giant mass of irradiated/ing concrete and fuel. When they stopped controlling the reaction the blob of metal melted through everything in its path before a portion of it stopped here.

From the videos on Chernobyl I've seen, I'm pretty sure the coffin is ground zero. They keep a radiation shield around the main reactor building at all times to stop any further contamination of the environment with all the terrible crap around that point.

You should look up the "elephant's foot" at Cherynobyl. Pretty insane stuff.

I love it too. There's a huge, abandoned four-story dorm on my campus I get to explore sometimes. Everything's falling apart, especially the roof, and there's all kinds of interesting crap in the air you do not want to be breathing if you have a weak immune system.

It's crazy how much stuff is still in there. It's like people dropped everything and left. Makes you wonder if they thought they'd be back next year, but couldn't get in. Unfortunately, some idiots also got in and wrecked a lot of it. There were hundreds of old records left in the RA's room. All smashed now. Kind of pisses me off.

Well there goes my night. I was reading about it and wow 300 seconds to provide a lethal dose. That's just so crazy. I remember reading about how 3 men swam into water that was meant to be used to cool the nuclear reactors in chernobyl to prevent it from erupting knowing that they would die in the process. By doing this the basically saved all of Europe.

The scenes you're describing remind me of those movies where some family moves into a mansion to find everything covered I'm white sheets. Like it was valuable enough to preserve but not valuable enough to take with you. I just don't understand

I'm not jealous, lol. I have no ounce of jealousy for anyone who lives near creepy old and dangerous buildings. XD

There was this abandoned mental hospital that was around the area one of my friends lived. I was 17 at the time (25 now), and him, two other friends of ours, and myself all walked down the levee along the river to get to this place. It wasn't terribly close to where he lived, but it was walking distance, just a very long walking distance. I forget if it was night or day when we did this, but I felt that it was night time.

This was a huge multistoried complex. We went in, and investigated the first few floors until my friends got too creeped out to continue. Call it naivety, bravery, or stupidity, but I wasn't scared at all. I've typically been a skeptical kind of guy when it comes to paranormal stuff, but I didn't think of possibly deranged or otherwise dangerous people hanging around this area, since it was open to anyone.

The creepiest things we saw was probably an X-ray that had what seemed to have an image of a baby's hand on it, but it looked like the image wasn't part of the x-ray. It's hard to say, but I'm sure any radiologist probably has a few **** takes that look like this.

Oh yeah, there were also human-sized cages in another part of the asylum we went to that was on the grounds, but not part of the multi-storied complex. This building was one story and had blown out windows and a view of the night's sky at all times.

Yeah, creepy. They welded the doors to that complex shut not too long after we went there, probably because of homeless people living there or something.

That's one of the things that always confused me about abandoned places. The lack of homeless people living there. I never understood it. Like is it just too far from the main part of town or do they just not like abandoned places. I guess the closest thing I've had to an abandoned place is an abandoned gas station that's a mile away from where I live. Obviously that isn't interesting since you walk in and you've already seen everything. Some homeless people do attempt to live there though.

Ongoing Apple saga, chapter, er, 3 whatever.

The Power Mac does still work (the dual CPU one, anyway), and CAN read the Mac mini applications installation DVD.

But ... the installation files are hidden in a hidden "System" folder on the DVD.  And each one is a directory unto itself (this is a Mac thing - apps and installation packages are directories containing all the necessary resources, rather than a single .msi or .exe file like in Windows).

This all and well, except to get all the Mac attributes and everything is slightly more awkward.

And I don't know if I need the top level installation package to install the rest of the packages or not.

Ha ha, I gotta agree with you man. That was super irritating. I finally turn off iPhone Backup into iCloud and turn the damn iCloud Photo Library and it stopped bugging me!

The fact that I'm awake.

Been taking care of Sarah since she's sick. I can't make any loud noises or she'll wake up and yell at me (she hasn't been getting much sleep so I don't blame her).

But...
I reeeeeally wanna eat some food right now.

I really need to fix the squeaky door

This is the modern world. Vote with your pocketbook and your feet.

"Apple service" is why I always refer to them as "The Evil Empire"

On the other hand, my wife has been an intensely loyal subject for 2 decades.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Picked up hearthstone...
Getting wrecked by glittery cards I haven't seen b4...
Either I'm a pleb whom sucks
Or
people are rich as ****

entry curve is too ****ing steep atm..
buying at least naxx is almost a must out of the gate. it'll take you forever to purchase with ingame gold because you don't already have cards that can consistently win you games.

i feel like the basic priest deck is still probably the best out of all basic deck options
i'll try and find the list if you want m8

also, while i'm here..

while ubering friday night a very nice young lady's black-out drunk sorority sister threw up in my car. tbh it was ****ing disgusting fam.. it ended my work night for obvious reasons but uber took $200 from her and gave it to me for the mess.

that's not what's bothering me. what's bothering me is that this girl got an uber from this GA Tech homecoming frat rager to prevent her retarded friend from getting train ran on her and then her friend cost her $200

for the record $220 for a single hour of work does not bother me.

olive garden sucks.

ftfy  ^-^
I'm stateside on Tuesday, you recommend not eating at an olive garden? I want to try it because I can't imagine what to expect, like I have this vision of an outside place decorated in plastic vines but I really can't guess what they serve :3 I do hear it's all microwaved though.

I think it's more of me being a real Italian, and knowing what real Italian food is. Olive Garden is not real Italian food :D

But depending on where you are going, I could recommend some places
IME, everyone who's Italian says they know real Italian, then you eat over their house and their mom makes Italian differently than the Italian mom's cooking you had the week before, and both are different from the week before that.

It's almost as if Italy is a large country with a diverse culinary culture
Doesn't matter, food in Italy is fabulous almost everywhere.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

i'm whispering this because i think my mac is starting to conspire against me.

after yesterday's fiasco to install iphoto, i gave up.

that evening i unplugged my qfs (mx greens) and plugged in the qfr (mx blacks) out of consideration for others who were retiring for the night.

the last few posts on gh went through fine.  i checked email, browsed a little bit, all with no issues.

i put the mac to sleep and went to bed myself.

this morning i awoke from my slumber and tried to coax the mac to wakefulness.

i entered my password, as usual, but to no avail - the mac wouldn't accept it.

i had been playing with my old power mac on the weekend which has a different password, so i considered that i might have put the old password in by mistake.

i tried again very carefully, counting characters, another couple of times, still to no avail.

so i logged in from a terminal connected to my main server, and the password worked!

i ended up switching back to my hhkb, and that seems to have worked for now.

but it has left me wondering whether my mac is starting to conspire against me because i said something negative about it.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well it was chilling in front of a neighboring house so I went over there to ask them if they had a corgi and if so then it must have gotten out. When I walked over their it started barking at me and no one answered. I have dog treats that I could give it (I have a beagle), but that was like 15 min ago so idk where it is now. Maybe I should go look for it?

well I looked for the corgi and didn't find it. When I last saw it, it was headed down a street that turns into a culdesac so I'm assuming it was found. As for hurricane we are just getting left over rains but the flooding will be annoying D:

Went to my professors office on Thursday to get help with the homework. I think I must have left it there since I can't find it and haven't opened my bag since. It's due Monday morning.

You know what you have to do

I mean I was just going to go and ask for another copy before his first class but your plan does make the task of completing my homework more entertaining.

Well you know how I was sick....

Then I got Sarah sick....

Then she didn't get much better after a few days

Now she's REAALLY not doing good.
I feel bad since I got her sick and now she has to miss more school and she doesn't have understanding professors.

Literally, one of them says getting sick is a "choice".
Told this to the doctor at the urgent care and she even called the Prof. a "douchewad" for thinking that.

But I feel bad.
She's worked so hard through the night and having to go to school with no sleep at 7am.
She was getting As but now because of attendance of missing one day last week and then possibly all of this week, then she's in a panic about not getting the grades she's worked for.

Just doesn't feel good.
I got sick, got better in a few days, but she ends up being told to stay home.

Gotta give her antibiotics, steroids, and she now has an inhaler multiple times a day

**** me

Ps. It's pneumonia

Highly opinionated commentary with no research done.
