CPTBadAss Visits San Fran and Hong Kong, Let's Hang Out [Done]
« on: Thu, 16 January 2014, 20:32:25 »
Oops, I did it again.

Moz is trying to outdo me?? Pfft
Yeah, the game is on bro, I'll be travelling over 8000KM to meet my fellow keyboardbros!

Quick estimate of my trips shows I've traveled about 11000KM to visit GeekHackers this year. Please get on my level :P

Last year I traveled a little and visited tons of GeekHackers.  But something was off last year….something…confining. You see, I’ve become much like many classifieds ads:

“WHY CONUS ONLY?!?!?!???”

I’m tired of the contiguous United States/Lower 48. So I’m taking my show international. At the end of February/beginning of March this year, I’m going to be in San Francisco and Hong Kong. Let’s hang out.

The details of my trip aren’t all planned out yet so I’ll be adding updates as I figure things out. But so far I do know that I’m stopping in San Francisco for about a day for a layover. I’ll be in town 2/27 and 2/28. I’m probably meeting up with Input Nirvana, jwaz, and Hashbaz. Hopefully I can hang out with Haata as well. Anyways, I'd like to get some people together to eat.

Does anyone in the Bay Area want to do a GH meetup dinner on 2/28?

People who've said they'd show up:
- nuclearsandwich
- Input Nirvana
- jwaz
- Hashbaz
- codyeatworld
- gh_pp

Then after, I’ll be in Hong Kong for a while. Details are still a bit fuzzy but are there any GHers from Hong Kong who might be interested in chilling? Grab some milk tea and talk keyboards?

Looking like I might be going to Tokyo as well. No more Japan, the timing isn't going to work out.

As I said, as my plans firm up, I’ll put some updates here. But for now, I’m trying to give some heads up and gauge interest. Let me know what’s up.

Oh and I forgot, anyone know where to get keyboards in Hong Kong? I've found Keyboard Hell, MegaBeef's guide to HK keyboard buying, and Ripster's guide to keyboard buying in HK.

I also found a few more places in the reddit buying guide not covered by by MegaBeef:

Has been to 2 meet ups in 2 cities

Is tired of an entire nation now

More realistically, perhaps I'll go to the bay area part of your trip.

Maybe, I had that in LA. Definitely a good idea though.

What???  Heck of a trip.

As I child, my family lived in Hong Kong for a couple months.  The sheer crush of people in the crowded sections and transportation portals is astonishing.

And too bad they closed the old airport.  it seem like you would crash into some skyscrapers or dive into the ocean.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

I don't remember it being *too* bad when I went last but we'll see.

That seems like it would make the landing more interesting though :P.

I just remember the subways and ferries and markets being a moving mass of Chinese people.

It was 20 years ago, so the old noggin is a little fuzzy.

I see how it is.

You visit all the other GH'ers and ignore your "plans" to visit "me". I'll guess I'll just have to drive myself over to your place next time I get a 3-day if I ever want to see you again.

Still, visiting HK would be awesome! SF will be sweet as well. Hopefully you can meet up with HaaTa: that guy is legit. Have fun!

Dork:
You did a "Grab-Kawas-ride-and-split" a few months ago, so there's some butt hurt going on over here still…so be careful with the lashing, LOL

I still think of a Nor Cal/So Cal meet up since there are so many in both locations….but as non-Californians may not know, there's not much in central Cal other than agriculture…I guess it never will make sense for EVERYBODY to travel for a meet up when only half could travel… then again Keycon….

I look forward to meeting you guys (already met Jwaz, but he blows me off constantly...whatta playa).

Have fun!

Hey man, it's hard to pass up an opportunity like this! :P

That's good to know.

You're not gonna be this *****y when you get here, right?

He probably is suffering from lack of ice cream

****, THAT'S what I'm missing tonight….I'd go get some, but I'm in no mood to be able to decide on flavors right now.

I look forward to meeting you guys (already met Jwaz, but he blows me off constantly...whatta playa).

As long as I get ice cream and other delicious food, I will not be *****y. In fact, I might even be fun :P.

In other news, I think I'm going to be going to Tokyo as well. #alltooreal
