nadop,
I don't give my design a license yet intentionally, at least during I'm running GB. That being said, feel free to make PCBs for your own usage but will have to postpone distributing to others untill I clearly decide the license. I'm thinking about using CC-BY-SA like Sparkfun.com does or GPL.

I'd most likely get another if there's a second run. How can I be satisfied with only one??

@nandop: I'll be posting an interest check soon for 60% Alps plates.

Awesome!! Thank you :D

Oh I see. Since JDCarpe will be making plates, I'll wait for the second run and buy everything together. Thank you for this Hasu!

Got PCBs and did quick visual inspection and case fitting. Before inspection I numbered them from 1 to 10, you'll get one according to your position of the list. I take no. 10.

Good news first, it looks like its size and dimensions of switch pads, screw holes and connector fit to Poker X case, not soldered and screwed yet at all though.

I'll solder MCU, flash firmware and test its USB connection later. I have to make cut offs on the plate for screws before solder switches and finish my keyboard.

Bad news is its quality... The board house is cheap and far from top notch, but  it is worse than what I expected. The PCBs have many slight scars and some ugly fixes by knife and maker like this pic.

Very exciting! Too bad about the PCB quality, but as long as they are functional, I can live with minor flaws.

Wow, those look horrendous :P. I don't really mind tho, it's fine (I have made PCB's that look worse). But I'd also like to know where they are from, so I can avoid them in the future.

Really looking forward to getting the board by the way, looks good in that poker case. :)

As long as they work it'll be ok. Not ideal but I probably would have messed up the PCBs anyways lol

These PCBs came from Elecrow.com, they have done great jobs for my projects for two years but its quality got worse drastically for this several months. I use them mainly beause of their cheapest pricing and also prefer to seeedstudio.com in terms of service/option they can offer. Finally I got the first PCB electrically failed in the last order, this wasted my full day for debugging :( I'm looking for other new board houses but still their price is attracting.

OK. I soldered SMD components on  a board and  it works regarding USB connection at least. I can wrote code for it and flash firmware now.

OK. Soldered switches and wrote firmware. It works now!

I confirmed it works with AEK layout and Poker X case at least. I can't confirm other layouts and cases but it likely works well.

USB connector should be shifted by 0.3-0.5mm, though.

I'll solder components for rest boards and send invoices for shipping and assmelbly soon.

Probably I'll revise design and make more boards, but I don't know whether it would be GB or artisan service.
Before that I have to see how well assmebly and shipping go and also need to find new good PCB fab to work with.

DanielT, confirming Dell layout would be nice! :D

Well FWIW if it happens I wouldn't mind getting one or two unassembled, to hone my SMD soldering skills.

This is the layout I'm considering to use. I have modded a plate for it. Sourcing keycaps and stabilizing the enter key will be a problem for now, but I'm counting on Matias to sort that out in the future. :)

From what I remember with playing with a V60 mini, it was ok. Kinda reminded me of a Poker but with Alps. I'm sure it's fine but I'm not going to spend on one just to have one. I've got plenty of other keyboards and patience. With this PCB, I can put it into a TEX case and have that lovely metal feeling :). Thank you for the recommendation though ^__^.

OK. Today soldered all boards, load them with plain firmware. I checked the boards can be updatable via USB and did visual inspection very simply.

I'm going to ship them just with this bubble mailer. Too optimistic?
I've not experienced any trouble on the way with smaller size PCB(bottom in pic) so far.

I'll send invoice for assembly and shipping soon.

Can you slip some cardboard or something on either side of the PCB?  I'd be willing to pay extra for a little more protection.  I'm just wary of the PCB being bent and traces breaking in the mail.

I think cardboard is too flimsy and not so useful for that purpose. You mean, somehting like thin MDF board? Anyway, I don't have proper materials and cutting tools at hand.

A thought : adding a few layers of cardboard and bubble wrap may help reduce bending. When the mailer is nice and fat (full), it ought to resist tight bends more. Wouldn't this further protect the PCB?

Great :D As long as it's programmable, I'm pretty sure it will be easy to fix if there is a error in the PCB :) I think the packaging is sufficient, should be fine.

Clicky - blue Alps
Linear - green Alps
Brown - brown and orange Alps are pretty good iirc

Edit: Just to mention it, I totally would be in for a PCB or two in a second run.

Click modded Orange >>> Blue Alps.

Brown, Orange, and Green are all nice tactile Alps.  And, like you said, Green is the only way to go for linear Alps.

I inquired nubbs about this earlier and it's actually fairly simple.
Click modded leaf

Unmodded leaf:

It creates a softer, less shrill click similar to how MX whites are softer.
You just fold the little tabs on the side of the leaf.

Click modded Orange >>> Blue Alps.

Brown, Orange, and Green are all nice tactile Alps.  And, like you said, Green is the only way to go for linear Alps.

In what regard do they feel different? Smoother, heavier? Cause you can get custom Alps springs if the only weight is the difference.

It's a nicer tactile bump (IMO) and it's a softer, less harsh click.  Whites and Blues tend to be a little on the sharp and harsh side in sound.  Click modded Orange is a softer, deeper, and richer sounding click, IMO.  It's not really quieter, but not as grating.  It's kind of like good White MX versus MX Greens.

Sounds nice, although I don't mind a "harsh" click (my current fav is the K110 with Monterey Blues and they are just crunchy, I guess that wouldn't be your taste).

PS: Requesting typing video :)

When I tried Monterey Blues, they were more pleasant to me than Alps Blues.

Also, I don't have a full board with them since I tend to prefer tactile instead of clicky. I may make some more and try and do a crappy video for you though.
