[IC] Colors - Cherry Profile
« on: Tue, 27 October 2015, 08:48:45 »
Hi guys, this is an interest check for a GMK set/s with dark grey alphas and color mods. I've set up a poll to gauge interest and did some mockups. The plan is to make an initial run with maybe at least two colors, base kit will be alphas, child deals will be the color mods, or vice versa I'm not sure how being a base kit affects a kit:thumb:

Feel free to make suggestions and comments, thanks!  :thumb:

Link to the poll: http://goo.gl/forms/ENlQ6UVRDQ

Purple|Grey

Yellow|Grey

Pink|Grey

Green|Grey

Blue|Grey

Red|Grey

Why not having the legends in a contrasting color, like white or light gray?

Personally I like the low contrast caps.

Personally I like the low contrast caps.

That type of sets have been made at least three times already in PBT die subbed by Ivan; therefore, people that like them have their stock already full with them, but who knows. High contrasting legends is one of the advantages of the double shot process, I do not see why to compete with colors that can be manufacture with other methods.

I personally think that if people are going to fork over more than $100 for a GMK set they need to be more interesting than dark on dark alphas with black on **insert color here** modifiers - Hyperfuse is the best example of this and I think Miami Nights will do a good job as well

I think that you need at least 2 colours (excl. black) to get an interesting looking GMK set

Thank you, I'm not familiar with Ivan's sets or most GMK sets for that matter. I like the look of HiPro caps, that's one my major reasons for trying this. :)

Those were not GMK, but PBT caps in Cherry profile, and pricing was very good at under 80 USD per set.

Problem with the dark ones is that the dark on dark keycaps have already been run in PBT by Ivan several times

If what you want is a HiPro style set just look for someone selling her Ivan's black on black PBT die-sub set. Or just wait for the next run.

I'm not a fan of dark-on-dark, which is my only gripe about the Realforce 87UB board. If I'm going to have legends on my caps I want them to show.

That said, I'm interested to see what else you have up your sleeve.

Okay guys, you can just vote no if you don't want this. It's an interest check anyway and if there's no interest then it's done.

Crazy thought I had when reading the title.

What if you did a set of escape and enter keys in these colors?

You would get interesting accent keys and real life examples of the colors.

Great idea! I would buy some sets to splash some accent to my boring Joe's OG Cherry sets.

I still haven't seen anyone do an accent key group buy but I think it would be pretty awesome

Does anyone know what the cost would work out to?

Like a color mod pack? Sure we can do that, even if there's not enough interest for the alphas that will still be nice. :)

edit:
I should probably change the name to Cherry Colors since I'm not really firm on using GMK.

I mean an accent set of only escape and enter keys in different colors. It should be much cheaper than an entire mod kit.

Then when people get those they can decide what colors they like or don't like and they will have some interesting accent keys.

The packs may open interest in the original proposal, but with actual samples, people may make their minds in full sets in similar colors.

There's a good number of group buys for whole sets and they are surely a success, but GMK full sets tend to cost around $120 and they surely aren't for every wallet.
I believe group buy leaders should really focus on either the alphas or the mods.
Look at billnye's numbers for his GMK blue modifier GB, he sold 489 set at $47 which is a really reasonable price.
His set was great, he included both ISO and ANSI Enter, R3 Control with a stepped alternative too, arrow keys, and all sort of R4 keys. IMHO it only missed a 1u R1 Backspace.
It would be better to let people also vote for legends' color as black won't surely please everyone.
My two cents.

My mind wanders a lot and I forgot to mention one of the reasons why I did this set. I wanted a set in which I can replace the look easily without pulling everything, hence the mod accents.

I didn't really aim for another thematic set.

edit:
Also the above reason means a color pack or what ever accent kits will still be great. :)

Black on grey alphas are not something I would want to pay for.
They are just so uninteresting and I would not want to pay the extra cost for something I could likely get from other sources.
The coloured mods are cool though. I think that a coloured mod pack would be much more successful than a full set.

We can just separate the Alphas and the mods.

I think I'd prefer a full set of black-on-black; if only in the hope I can get that colourway in Cherry profile with ISO keys >_>

I do like the mod-pack, however, especially with dark legends. As has been mentioned, Billnye's Electric Bugaloo Bluegaloo is a fantastic set and I'd happily jump on similar sets with different colours.

I think yellow and pink have a lot of potential and would get behind that either as a mod set or accent keys

Green could be good but not sure what to pair it with

From the renders I get the feeling that this is more of an IMSTO black on dark grey style than Ivan's black on black for the alphas. I like it. Sure,  I guess you could mix sets to get those alphas but then again it's not like these would be the only sets in the world with that "problem".

I'm guessing there are still plenty of people who don't own a dark on dark set, and I've broken up the sets anyway to separate the alphas. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)

I'd be interested in getting the blue and purple modifiers, maybe the pink depending on the cost. Not really interested in the alphas.

Also I'm 90% sure that the blue and pink in this set are the same colors as the cyan and magenta in the CMYK and CMYW set, so if you're looking for in real life examples look for pics of those.

That board is awesome, the caps are in the traditional black on beige double shot combination. There have been some efforts to make a GMK replica in that color that were not successful unfortunately, for boring Joes like me, it is the finest combination ever.
