Poker 2
« on: Tue, 15 January 2013, 10:39:24 »
They started a new subforum on KBC about it. I did see the thread about the board on pcwaishe first of course.

Some talking points:

Separate arrow keys
Completely backlit with 7 levels of brightness
Updatable firmware
All keys (except for Fn and Pn) are fully hardware programmable.
Delays for macro.
Fn layer is fully programmable.
This is just use case example for programming a macro.
Plate mounted
Fn and Caps locks switch via dip switch. The LED indicators will also switch positions.
Designed and QCed by "brother meat"

Haha. I am hoping you win Glissant's Poker case so I could finesse your silver Pure case from you ;)

http://www.pcwaishe.cn/thread-454425-1-1.html go through that one if anybody wants to know more.
Things I skimmed:
Apparently it could be called Pure Pro OR Poker 2, depending on location and language layout.
Poker Pro seems to be Poker 2 without LED and programmability.
There is also going to be an updated version of Poker with the original layout.
ABS and PBT versions.
"Development version". Not exactly sure what it is, but sounds like DIY board with customizable layout.

Worst case scenario, change the case?

But I think its more the keyboard layout for 60% boards, as otherwise its pretty much the same (or correct me if I am wrong haha :D).

For the most part it's the same, but there have been more unconventional 60% keyboards, like the Leopold FC660M and the Matias quiet/laptop pro

Idk. It isn't too bad. I have one. But I think it doesn't look that good because its 75% and not 60%. Too many keys, and too many random sized keys in the wrong places doing random shiz.

Given that most of Vortex's boards have LEDs, don't you have to desolder the LED to open the top of the switch?

If so, I think a serviceable plate is rather moot.

Yup, on a backlit board it doesn't make sense... unless a manufacturer can find a way to make the LED's pluggable/unplugabble without soldering. It should be doable... like solder some kind of tiny surface mount connector on the PCB that allows LED's to be pushed in and out.

If you want to make your Pure programmable, I don't think it'll happen. The MCU is an one time programmable device. You could always toss in a teensy and jumper wire it to the matrix. You would be better off with just buying a GH60 in that case. Programmable boards in standard layout is just matter of time though ;)

It's a good sign for sure, but I'll wait on his confirmation :) This isn't a dig at Weyman, but stuff he wanted have fallen through before, such as PBTs. If indeed it has the phantom plates, I'll poke some people about them and may be we'll see it on some future boards.

There's a few variations floating around, but basically the switch openings are not pure rectangles like in traditional cases, but have recesses to allow opening up cherry switches (whose tabs need some room to be opened for the upper switch housing to be pulled out)

Based on all the information I gathered from the web, it seems very likely that Poker II (or Poker pro) won't have the same layout as the original Poker, which ruins it all. Better count on GH60 bros.
KMAC2 - Matrix Lab 8XV2.0 - TGR Jane v2 CE - KBD8X MKII - Meridian - Matrix Lab Noah - Fallacy x2 - MGA Standard - Geon Frog mini - Amano - Ciel60 - Prime_Elise - Matrix Lab 6XV3.0 aka Corsa

I am gonna close this thread, since it is no longer relevant. What was described in the OP will not be called Poker2, but Pure Pro. Poker 2 will have standard layout like the original Poker.
