500dpi on 1366x768 ;D

it makes sense to use even 400 or 200 @ that resolution..

I use 2700dpi @ 2560x1600..

Higher dpi is more ergonomic, because I don't have to move my arm as much to get across the screen

I don't see any point in using high DPI. I don't really game that much but when I play an occasional game of CoD 4, I play on low sensitivity.

you mean WEAKENING? real men exercise by moving low-DPI-powered cursors across multi-monitor setups.

I have no mouse acceleration enabled on windows 7 and I am using an 27 inch monitor, with a resolution of 1920x1080.
In CS:GO I am playing with a sensitivity of 2.0

Use 3840×2160 and need to have at least 3200dpi on my mouse to cover the screen decently  :thumb: .

Perhaps a nice analogy.. I was thinking about this. I now use 1600 DPI on my Avior 700 mostly for my 27" 2560x1440 without acceleration on OS X.

Isn't the DPI you use somewhat comparable to the chassis of a car like sports steering? When you use a relative low DPI (perhaps combined with mouse acceleration) on a high resolution screen it is more like a comfortable saloon car like a big old Mercedes. But when you use high DPI (with mouse acceleration off) the mouse "steers" really direct like a sports car. For instance, when I move my mouse from the middle of the screen to the left, it only takes me 2-3cm on my mat to reach the corner of the screen.

I've been flipping between the top two settings on my R.A.T. 9 - 6400 and 5600(? I think) I seem to be most comfortable with the latter. However, at work I'm using something freakishly slow. Since I primarily use keyboard navigation as a developer it isn't too big of a problem.

I used to use high DPI when I played Quake. Specifically, I'd have to frequently 180, rocket jump, then swing back with minimal effort. After switching to shooters where managing recoil is the main challenge, I lowered my DPI significantly. I think I'm at 1600 with minimal in-game sensitivity, though in windows I use 4000.

Try this for fun... in Windows anyway.  Turn off the enhance pointer position in Pointer Options in Mouse Properties.  Turn the pointer speed way down.  In your custom gaming mouse software or on your gaming mouse... crank up the DPI really high.  Now, fairly normal movement with extreme control.  This is what I use for graphics and graphical programming for the controls systems I design.  I do this currently with a G700S and put the DPI very high.  If the mouse is moving really fast, turn down the pointer speed in the mouse properties even more.

I forgot to add, I also use a higher quality hard gaming mouse surface... Razer Sphex on home system and a SteelSeries 4HD on job sites.

Feedback?  Anyone try this?

And one more thing, the report Hz rate matters.  Set it as high as possible... 500-1000 Hz is best.

MykB77 has almost the same as me, G700s on a Razer Sphex surface (works great on glass, but I may change it for something higher dpi).

I leave Windows settings alone, and use 5700 DPI with 1000 polling rate. For cad and graphics it works quite well on dual 1080p screens. I found that with 500 polling I couldn't always get pixel level precision on high detail work. This absolutely eats batteries though. Instead of the 2000 mah battery it comes with, I need a 2700mah to make it through a day of heavy use and even then it's often down at 10% by days end.

However, I tried using it on an old 1024x768 laptop the other day... Not going to work. haha It went flying across the screen with less than 1/4in mouse movement.

It's been about a year since I've replied this thread and it's still up here haha.

Right now I'm using a 23.8 inch monitor (Dell U2414H) and I use 400 DPI with it. Looking at other people's DPI levels in this thread are insane for me. I guess I'm used to low sensitivity after playing CS:GO all Summer. I can barely use the 1600 DPI setting on my Zowie EC2-A without feeling I'm going way too fast. I can imagine raising my DPI a little more if I were to get another monitor or even switch to an ultrawide monitor.

I use 4800 dpi at 1920x1080 for everything, I prefer not having to drag my mouse halfway across my desk to reach something :P
I used to stick with 3200, but after that 4800 is something I got used to quite quickly.

I've been using 4.8k dpi for the last year. Been loving it for general OS maneuvability since I mainly operate on wrist movements. Used to play planetside 2 with this and never had any problems. I'd tone down to 3.2k for aerial stuff and I didn't have too much problem contesting with top players. I saw a previous post addressing this, but it comes down to comfort imo

Edit: Forgot to say that most mice past like ~6k dpi or something uses interpolation or whats-it-called to push the dpi past what the sensor actually captures. Can't say how reliable they are, but I don't trust anything higher than 4.8k

High DPI is always less accurate than a lower DPI (native) that tracks well.

Regardless, I prefer using the mouse's native DPI! ^-^

I think it's for snipers in FPS, so they can make precise movements, whereas really high dps is for pros who are good at doing those 'flick-shots'. Not sure though. Personally I'm comfortable at 7000-8000 with mouse sensitivity 3 on a 1920x1080, a little under 1.5 inches to cross the monitor. I'm used to having small mousepads and limited space, so now even with a giant metal hulk, it's my preference.

Really low DPI on a huge mousepad for (450-600) FPS games.

3000+ for RTS and MOBAs (Starcraft and League).

If you can increase your dpi, you might want to decrease sensitivity and increase DPI, apparently when you're above 3 sensitivity, Windows starts skipping pixels. If that's not important then  :D

You have to consider how it's controlled.
Your shoulder and elbow are not precise instruments, but they do have a large range of motion, so low resolution works best. Wrists and fingers are precise instruments, but lack range of motion, so high dpi works best. Done right, both should have similar accuracy, but I would give the speed advantage to high dpi.

I'm rarely the best player, but in games that show shooting accuracy, I'm usually right at the top.

No, I use 400 dpi as it is the limitation of the 1.1a.
With 27" becoming the standard and eventually high dpi displays---
I'm worried about the future where no sensor can replace the mlt04 for me.

You know what I never noticed anything since I've been playing on a laptop screen for years. Yesterday I just got a BenQ gaming monitor and your suggested change made a really noticeable difference.

i know what you mean!
it's impossible for me to move back to the mlt04, however, because i'm already used to better/higher tracking speeds.
my favorite is still the WMO, but it just can not keep up with my swipes.
so i just decided to stick with newer sensors/mice, because it's inevitable that the 400dpi of the mlt04 will become insufficient at some point..
(and honestly i feel better knowing that my sensor can keep up with any speed i can get out of my arm/hand!)

i use 800cpi on 1920x1080. it's kind of fast in my opinion, but it's easy to be accurate, so it's fine with me.

I'm a big fan of 400dpi as a counter strike player. In game sense is 1.1 too so it's especially low. Also I used to be a 1600 user but once I got a big mousepad and lowered that sense, I really can't go back.
