Keyboard of the month
« on: Sun, 31 August 2014, 13:51:37 »
This is why we need a keyboard of the month contest on GH.  It's sad when a board with two sets of stock caps and some LEDs installed is beating out something like Entry 2 (or even Entry 4) that has more impressive work.

I want to see that bare aluminum Kishsaver with an enhanced (a little color here and there) pearl/pebble set.

What makes this keyboard is the quality of the photography, but still this has to be one of the best boards of the year... maybe we should do one better and do a keyboard of the year comp??? Given that peoples boards tend to change so often...

I'd vote for HPE's keyboard(the dark aluminum filco) if I were taking part in that poll. I'm shocked a stock poker with 50/50 keycaps is running away with the voting.

But what does GH have to do with trucks?

I think we should definitely make this a thing. But make a rule where one board can't be voted in more than once.

The Mk2 Golf Owners Club does this as well, and posts a picture on the front page of the car of the month, we could do something like that at the top maybe. Maybe a link or something instead of a picture.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

:'(  Why you gotta tease me?!  Thankfully there's a somewhat vibrant VW community near me, but it's mostly non-stock GTIs.  I pretty much just want a stock MK2 Golf.  Those are hard to find in decent condition around here.  :(

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I started reading this thread, then all of a sudden it is talking about a truck of the month and VW Golfs.

That's fairly on topic for off topic.

How is that first entry not walking anything else?

Is this just an OCM popularity circle jerk?

Also, there are way too many really good looking boards here for that to be anything more than a mess.

Maybe have the vote limited to five a month or something, and if you as a user gets nominated you cant submit another board for six months or something?

That way more people would get their boards seen/shown off

And then in december, take the 11 previous month winners and use them for KotY?

That might work.

Now watch someone do a one off hhkb aluminum cast case and put novatouch sliders in it and slay.

And that is why I am rarely on the OCN mech club page.  I am sure the owner of the 2-tone is proud of their board, but all of the others should be ahead of it.

For KOTM to work here, it would definitely need to have subsections:

Maybe something along these lines?
Buckling spring
Custom
Thorpe
MX
Alps
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

Why?

Isn't this like "Best of Show" at a dog show?

The problem with that is that I would have to hunt them down and take their case...and nobody wants that.

If I go through with making a cast hhkb case, I'd use it to defend itself if someone came for it.  Srsly.

I think dividing it up into subsections based on switch would dilute the competition a bit too much.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Don't worry, I have a Digilog case I can use in retaliation. No skull will be left unbroken until I have that HHKB case.

Cast HHKB case versus 6019284. Battle of the 60%. Two boards enter, one board reigns supreme.
