Colorful Fairy Keyboard
« on: Sun, 21 September 2014, 18:13:27 »
I stumbled across this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Colorful-Keyboard-Backlight-Multimedia-Mechanical/dp/B00K9QMGKC/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1411338882&sr=8-31&keywords=MECHANICAL+KEYBOARDS

anyone see it before?
It's says 10 million keystrokes, so it is not Cherry or Kailh.

It's most likely just some other clone, claims ten million but it's probably higher than that since it's a clone (unless it's just terribly made or something).
Found a cheaper version here

Is the colorful fairy the keyboard or the person using it?
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

They are seriously advertising it like that?  With the connotations that has in many cultures?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So if this product originated in China, they did not give consideration to the implications the phrase might have in other cultures.

Doesn't "finger licking good" slogan of a certain fried chicken outlet translate to something like "chew your fingers off" in Chinese?

I think they are trying to emphasize the colorfullness by comparing to mythical fae ala tinkerbell. Sort of an onnocent comparison.

um... finger licking good...  they didn't translate it..  we already have a saying in chinese that translated back to english is -- so good you ate your hands...   but it means the same as 'finger licking good"

So they just stickered it on there.

Actually, it's just domes:

Now, the Genius brand does have some mechanicals, which use Kailh switches. This isn't one of them.

Oh! One other thing...

If you follow the link in my last post, look at the box art. It's identical to the images in the Amazon ad...

But there are some subtle differences in the actual keyboard. What you see is not (quite) what you get...
