This.  Every single person in my family and extended family have always had and probably always will have a Zojirushi.  It was one of the first things I bought for myself when I moved out. )

I have a thermos, which is the best thing I have to keep water cool all day at my desk and a rice cooker, which is the best thing to happen to rice since anything ever.

I'm a big fan of the brand.

If you're not a hot water user, this thing would be pretty useless

It comes down to time savings and convenience (laziness really)

Ok.. so when you need hot water..

Go downstairs,

Fill Kettle

Put on burner

Wait

Use water,

Dry kettle, put away


This is at fastest, a 10-15minute gig.



So... my day usually has 1 hot water time, 4 tea times (1 fresh hot 3 warmed from microwave ), , 2 ramen times.

I was going through the hot water routine at least 3-4 times per day.   which amounts to about an hour of boiling water...


This electric boiler takes care of that for me..


It's essentially a Hot Water Server.  It's a vacuum bottle + boiler + reheater..

I guess what made it $200, vs the $100 cheaper alternatives is merely the weeaboo factor, higher wages of jpn workers mostly..



The conflict in my mind now, is how much power I'm using for this convenience.. which is quite substantial vs the alternative of gas kettle, and regular electric kettles.

Don't you just have an electric kettle next to your kitchen sink? Takes 30 seconds to fill and 2 minutes to boil. It's not really that incontinent...

Don't you just have an electric kettle next to your kitchen sink? Takes 30 seconds to fill and 2 minutes to boil. It's not really that incontinent...

Yea, I got the hot tap dispenser next to the sink ...  but the water taste bad from it, because it sits in there for too long.. and it's not easy to empty, and you can't pop it open to clean the reservoir..

If you go to most other countries,, pretty much no one drinks ice-water/ cold water... they all drink hot water..

Eh?  It's pretty easy to find them, they're not very expensive and you can get them from places like Walmart.  Unless you're talking about high-end ones, in which case I still ask the question of what makes them worth the premium?  I assume it's like a membrane vs mechanical keyboard kind of thing, but I'm curious what that thing is exactly.

I've gone through 6x ~$50 electrics already (10 years)..  they all burn out due to the base wires frying eventually..

and there's also the whole, plastic innards issue.. apply energy to plastic, just a bad combo, for chemicals.

This is my first expensive kettle.  it's got steel with a ptfe coating..
