Help with leather

I have a leather cover for my camera. Got a gash/nick in it. Can I repair it at home?  I guess glue it back down somehow?  How?  Or should I pull off the raised flap?

You can get a leather care cream/wax to make it less noticeable but you won't be able make it go away.

You can glue an opening shut with leather adhesive, but you can't make it heal because the animal is dead.

PMd Noko. Initially didn't want to bother him as I know he's busy with all his orders. I'm hoping there's some way to glue it down a bit. I know it will still have a mark, but the gash is pretty big if I don't do something.

Hmm.  I think I would probably carefully trim the excess, then buff with leather conditioner and/or neutral shoe polish all over the piece.  Trying to glue it will probably look worse.

Iamtootallforthis is right, I don't think I would recommend trying to match the colour and finish, probably best to just renew the whole thing and make it blend in as much as possible.
However--if you go into a shoe repair shop and you can get a polish that matches the colour very well, that might be your best bet if you are really wanting to hide it.  (Dye won't work, will be too dark)

Far better craftsmanship than I am capable of.  The attention to detail is just glorious (dat skiving omg).  Best camera straps in the world.  :thumb:

Here's the family:  M6 with 30/2 (Made in Canada :o) Summicron, M2 with an older 50/2 Summicron, and "Anti-Panda" M2 with a newer 50/2 Summicron :)



Left all my darkroom stuff behind in my parents' basement when I moved so these guys don't get out much.  To be honest I don't have the heart for street photography, I found.
Husband dude is saving for the fancy new Fuji gear though, X Pro 1 / XT 1.

Sweet family! Thanks for sharing!  I looked at Fujis but ended up going with m4/3. They are sweet tools though.

I shot street with a meter less Voigtlander RF for a few years in Tibet. Was really tough, light was so directional and hard (lived at 13000 ft). Ended up switching to digital so I could process for a higher dynamic range. Always wanted a Leica (an olive M3 SS to be exact!) but more of a gearlust than need since it wouldn't fit my workflow very well now. Still dream about a MM though!
