before being infected by DIY keyboards disease, i would usually lose my spool of solder before it run out. not anymore. hope you are all proud.

now i'm looking at the online stores, and realizing solder is expensive as hell.

Also, nowadays 67/33 is cheaper than 60/40! wth happened with the world? did the 67/33 lose its novelty?

and to make this thread minimally usefull? what do you use on keyboards?

i usually go with tin/pb 60/40 .031 rosin core for switches. and 67/33 0.02 or less no core for smd stuff.

I use Kester 44 from mkawa.  If I remember correct it is 67/33 rosin core.  Don't remember the size but it is pretty small.

Maybe your 67/33 is cheaper because it's even further form being euctectic than 60/40.

Anyway it's not that expensive, and just 1 lb will last you a while. If you really want to cheap out, you can get some good brand that's about to expire for really cheap. Kester is bad after it expires, but other good brands (indium, etc.) are more stable. I got a pound for like $10 and it's still great.

solder is almost like thermal paste..  you buy it pretty much twice in your life, and you're set..

I use mkawa's kester .20 too. It's great. I've done at least 2 boards with it and it hasn't ran out.
