I want a photo editor for my Mac. Suggestions beyond Photoshop are appreciated. I have no clue what else is out there. Any suggestions?

Pixelmator. I demoed it a few years ago and it was pretty decent for basic stuff. I didn't use it prolifically at all, but tinkering with it, it seemed fairly similar to Photoshop. And it's only $30.

Pixelmator and Acorn are solid choices that won't cost an arm and a leg.

GIMP?
It's kinda native now.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I use lightroom for my stuff. Admittedly, I'm fairly hands off with post processing, though.

If you want free and online, Pixlr is quite nice. The download version is really basic and meh, but the online editor is nice.

I can't praise it enough..
Pixelmator for OSX: $30ish
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pixelmator/id407963104?mt=12&uo=4&at=10lb3t
and then Pixelmator for iPad: $5 ish
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pixelmator/id924695435?mt=8&uo=4&at=10lb3t
I have both, and haven't bothered to buy a sub to creative cloud because of it.
If you are looking for Vector work, check out: Affinity Designer, $50, It's better than anything similar I have ever tried:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/affinity-designer/id824171161?mt=12&uo=4&at=10lb3t
One of the things I like about all three of these, its that they aren't bloated like Photoshop, illustrator ect.
