Played Hotline Miami over the weekend. . . very mixed feelings. The game itself is simple but fairly fun. I almost think of it more of a puzzle game than a action game, although it has elements of both. The controls were very unlikable. Very stiff and weird. Compare it to even simple flash games and I had more trouble pinpointing where I wanted to go on screen in H.M.
The coolest stuff was not even the actual playing of the game, it was the menus, the ambience, and, yes, the music (which probably brings back memories if you went to raves in the 80s) I loved the story once it got going. In fact, I think that's why I kept playing. I actually preferred the story to the game. Sort of like a surrealist "The Professional" with more violence. Game itself? Take it or leave it. I've played browser games with more substance.
