Simplistic Geekhack Themes
« on: Fri, 27 June 2014, 15:51:36 »

                                                                     Simplistic themes.

I made these simple themes for geekhack with stylebot.

Chrome:
To use the theme simply install Stylebot and click the Install button for your desired theme on this site.
Or click the the Stylebot icon next to your address bar and click "Install from social" while on geekhack, and you should be able to choose my theme.

Firefox:
If you're using Firefox or just want to use Stylish the themes can now be found here.

me, goth, never heard that before..

The Science... !   I don't need colors or bright lights...  the 2 primary cause of eyestrain from computer use.

switch between my image, and your theme..   notice how much more relaxed your eyes are when looking at the darkness..

the texts brightness are also especially tweaked such that it does not cause an after image like white on black.

It's GREY on black.. specifically grey 46...

haha.. I think I've already ripped out as many elements as possible with my current skinning.. which is applied to every interface on my pc.. not just gh..

Ppreciate the offer though...

though, that's not to say... if you can truly come up with a theme that's even DARKER or less straining than mine..  That'd still be awesome..

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Not really, I wasn't quite sure on it myself - be free to come with suggestions for logos, or maybe you just don't want anything on the top. Let me know.

I thought if it's minimalist, just do away with the logo and we have more screen estate ie seeing more posts or thread in the browser. After all, that's the intent of minimalist. What do you think?

Here It is, an even more simplistic theme. Geekhack 2.0!

I've gotten rid of excess icons and annoying white borders + a new logo in the spirit of the orignal.

Please tell me if you have any suggestions and if you find any bugs.

ooo.. this color scheme would be good for low stress morning use..  Will try in the morning to fully test it out.
Sounds good, let me know how you like it after you've tested it out. Tip: All images are grey until you hover over them - for minimum eye strain.

Gave the Grey theme a thorough run today..

I would say it works just fine for daytime use.. and of course still better than black on white..

But now that the day has gotten darker..  the grey is still not as relaxing as black...

I'll admit my priorities are very different from the typical user.. So in that way.. Your Grey theme is a Great-Choice for the Users who wants to get away from black-on-white...

all-n-all, good stuff..

I would think that hard black would be hard for your eyes as well, but that's maybe just because I find it ugly.

And thank you for the compliment  :)

Another suggestion, if I may. By clicking the top right arrow, the profile photo can be hidden or shown. It would be better if I could hide the geekhack title together with the profile. That way, I save some screen real estate and can see more post/thread if I choose to do so.

I'm afraid I can't do that, I'm only allowed to fiddle with the CSS and adding a custom toggle mode would require some scripting.

But I'll see if I can make it possible with the tools I have.

Report: I actually got very close to succeeding with some nasty methods like attributes with regular expressions etc.

But It didn't matter how close I got because it would never be smooth and only update on page load. I also don't have a way to move up the content without also removing the arrow, I'm sorry - It can't be done with the access that I have.

If any of you have ideas for color schemes for the 2.0 theme be sure to let me know.

I tried to convert it into a stylish theme as well but It didn't work, here's the code if you want to try an implement it yourself.

(Geekhack 2.0 Nostalgia)
Code: [Select]
#siteslogan {
    display: none;
}

* {
    font-family: arial;
}

#header div.frame, .frame, #top_section, div.frame, #content_section, #footer_section, #header_section, #header , body {
    background-image: none;
    background-color: #1b1b1b;
}

h1.forumtitle a img {
    padding-left: -500px;
    margin-left: 560px;
    display: none;
}

#main_menu {
    background-color: #1b1b1b;
    text-align: center;
    width: 700px;
    height: 20px;
    position: absolute;
    margin-left: -350px;
    left: 50%;
