Been rewatching Home Movies for the first time in like a decade. Great show, absolutely holds up and is still hilarious. The first 2 seasons are really the top, about halfway through the 3rd it starts to drop off and get silly. Haven't gotten to s04 yet. Really ****in' funny show though.

Watching Seinfeld. The cropped version looks bloody awful at times. I get distracted by all the bad framing. Still watching though cos Seinfeld is hard to make unwatchable.

the show is perfect except s09 which really feels like a shark jump in many episodes
younger me wished they did an even 10 seasons, but current me wishes they stopped at 8. The last 3 episodes were particularly bad though imo. Traffic Jam, clip show, and Finale

I thought the first season was kind of weak as well but on reappraisal it's not too bad. Season 9 was certainly spotty.

Have you guys noticed, whenever there's a fight going on ontop of a moving truck or car-carrier type vehicle,  The driver just keeps driving, sometimes even faster ?

Train fights I can understand,  but the others would almost certainly stop.  The dude wouldn't be like, oh snap, ninjas are fighting  on my roof, I'm better keep eating sandwich, and drive.

Now that you mention it, yeah it is funny that they just keep on driving.  I can understand on a Semi trailer, but not on a roof connected on the main cab of the truck/vehicle.  I have yet to watch Snake Eyes, but grew up watching GI Joe morning cartoons (among many others), but I have been watching Squid Games - not too bad really but not as hype-tastic as everyone has been making it.  Also noticed the majority of the memes online using content from the show are primarily from the first 2-3 episodes.

There is soooo much wrong with tv/movie physics if it's inconvenient to their story it goes right out the window...
CGI has only made this problem worse, as has Youtube and Tik Tok.

Saw a review the other day complaining "Alien" was too long and drawn out, not enough action... It's called suspense you uncultured swine.

It's called suspense

Modern kids have no attention span.

My kids are extremely intelligent and high-achieving. They were also voracious readers of books until they got their first "smart" phones around age 12. From there it seems that they were re-conditioned to require instant gratification. It was if their entire relationship with the world around them changed. They did make it through college with high marks so they can do what they have to if there is enough pressure.

Today, I can put on a movie, but within 2 minutes their noses are buried on the small screen. If something subtle happens that is crucial to the plot, they often (usually) miss it altogether. I am constantly saying "Did you see that?" and rewinding, which really irritates me, but otherwise they lose the story thread.

I seriously doubt that either one of them is even capable, for whatever reasons, of meditating. Too bad, I think that it would really help them live better lives.
"The post-mortem blame game has already started, here as well as elsewhere: Harris did this, or didn’t do that, or Biden should have, shouldn’t have, whatever. Bull****.
This wasn’t Harris’s fault. She ran a campaign based on reality, while Trump, and the GOP in general, did a con job on America. And America bought it, because too many of us couldn’t face reality and didn’t want to remember history.
The GOP victory was a triumph of illusion."

The pacing on a lot of streaming TV shows is pretty glacial so I wonder if that's the case across the board.

I think my attention span has deteriorated in recent years but that's probably because I'm never bored. There's always something to distract yourself with these days even if it's the brain equivalent of fast food.

I've taken devices off my child cos he's usually watching something and playing a game at the same time, which I think is a bit frazzling after a day of school but I don't know if I'll be able to maintain that regimen when he's a teenager. I try keep all screens out of the bedroom anyway cos I think that's a solid practice.

It was good but it pretty much ran its course. There are very few shows that can stay fresh for more than a very few seasons.

Yeah, plot was a bit of a facepalm, but I watched it and it was ok. A bit of weirdly amator level film editing at times, but it was ok. 6/10

I find that this is the case for certain American shows. Some I stopped watching because of this (True Detective, Ozark). Some I didn't (Better Call Saul).
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I thought that "The Velvet Underground" documentary was extraordinary, but I have been a huge fan for half a century.

It may not mean much if 1960s avant-garde New York culture (and music in particular) was not one of the touchstones of your cognitive life experience.

Rewatching Breaking Bad for like the 7th time. Still such a great series, and it's crazy every time I rewatch the show I notice new details, or interpret things differently. Just shows what great writing the series has, the the plot is cohesive and tight enough to make each episode delicious and poppable, but with enough ambiguity that leaves just enough for the viewer to interpret themselves. One of the best series of all-time.

Went to see The Last Duel without any prior knowledge of the plot construction so It was a really pleasant surprise.

There wasn't a ton of action but the action was glorious. Yeah there's a fair bit of jump cutting shakey cam but there's actual weight to the sequences and only little smidges of CGI where absolutely necessary.

Squid Game...

Damn.

It's a Riff, off of .. Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor..  Anime.

The Anime is alot better.

Touhai Densetsu Akagi: Yami ni Maiorita Tensai (Akagi)
+
Legendary Gambler Tetsuya

Are both good animes about gambling as well.

Halt and Catch Fire Season 1

I started this again, after 2 shows I am cringing in pain.  Years ago, I watched the 1st season but then bailed out in disgust.

I HATE the main character (McMillan) and almost have to turn my eyes away from the screen when he appears.

Perhaps because I was in technical sales for a few decades, that anus is pretty much the embodiment of every abominable "sales trainer" whose presentation I had to endure ....

And then because he is an infantile psychopathic crybaby showoff whose behavior is tolerated by the people around and under him.

But it seems to be very highly regarded so I will try to soldier through it. I really hope that it gets better.
