Cherry Stabilizers Question
« on: Wed, 20 February 2013, 13:06:24 »
I was thinking about picking up a Leapold TKL due to the cherry stabilizers but I keep reading mixed reviews about the stabilizers.

But then I see a lot of custom boards using them. Are they better or worse than the wire? The metal sound on my Filco spacebar is quite annoying, but will better keys fix this (they are on the way) since I hear Filco keys are far inferior to the PBTs I have coming.

I never had this problem with my Blackwidow.

If you are worried about noises quit now.  No 2 boards sound the same.

The only thing I've ever concerned myself over is feel.  I like the feel of Costar better, but modded Cherry can come pretty damned close.  Love the feel of PBT too :)

PBT, over-rated.....

Lubed costar vs lubed cherry stabilizers, BOUT the same..

the only issue is cherry stabilizers have more problems the space bar you got is "less straight", WHICH is always the case with PBT spacebars.

That's impossible since Cherry's design specifically changes how they feel at the bottom.  The stabilizers have built-in landing springs (of plastic).

Watch out for Leopolds over center spacebar switch. It makes it a lot harder to find sets that support the spacebar location

It's one of the reasons I wouldn't buy a leo. board.

Any after market cases for the Leapold?

I'm pretty sure the vortex aluminum would fit with some "wrestling"

other than that, NO.

If you use rubber O-rings to dampen bottoming out, then you won't notice any difference between Cherry and Costar stabilizers.

I have not studied any Leopold in detail, but I have heard on this forum that the Leopold would have different spacing between key groups than the Filco ... and the Vortex Aluminium case was made for the Filco, no?

According to WhiteFireDragon, the leopold plate would be longer, so you may need to file a half millimeter off of it.
