The Whole-Arm Rest
« on: Sun, 02 September 2012, 22:57:11 »
why stop at the wrist?  ;D

I bolted a plank to my table

Now my entire forearm is rested .75 inch ABOVE the keyboard. Wrist feels very natural

And the length/width of the attached board is enough for my workspace. :)

looks great, watch out for those sharp corners, should round them out (don't know technical term)before you chaffe your skin.

chamfer if it's straight, fillet if it's round. So in this case it would be a fillet

How about round over, chamfer, ease, bullnose or t-mould? Take your pick.

Great idea. Nice armrest plus a convenient work top. A+

Wow great job! I would totally do this myself but I prefer the soft gel wrist rests. Great job though and I have a feeling many people are going to copy this idea.

edit: What size mousepad is that? Is that the XXXL from corepad or whatever?

A fillet is a rounding of an inside corner.

It's the xxl from xtrac pads. I'm always looking for a bigger mousepad, since sometimes I dual mouse for old games.

Yea, I thought about rounding out the corner.

But, it doesn't make much of a difference, because with my new layout, "layout for broad shoulders thread"

The hand doesn't move back and forth nearly as much, and doesn't rub against the edge of the rest.

So how do you use this?  As a REST, only when you aren't typing?  Or during typing / all the time?

I have a large desk big enough to rest my arm from elbow to wrist.  I rest my left arm all the way to  my hand at the base of my palm, my right hand moves more and it's just from my elbow to before my wrist that's on the surface.

I would be doing that with the table I use as a desk, but there's not enough depth with my CRT's on there.
