An awesome team member brought in some whiskey and scotch for end-of-the-project shots which happened to coincide with St. Paddy's day.
Conner - you da real MVP

What sort of work are you doing these days anyway?

Stuff for Microsoft.
Wait, Redmond hired you?!

Yes sir. 2 years of inter-op they finally made me a salary man.
Working for the Emprire of Evil, huh?! You're on my デスノート now  >:D
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

aww :( I literally went from about to be homeless to having more than I know what to do with overnight. It's a huge change, and if that means I have to lick The Devil's taint for a few years I'm more than happy to not go back to my previous daily struggle of dumb **** like figuring out if I should buy groceries or pay my electric bill. That's not a choice anyone should have to make.

good job hoff

meanwhile my IT department is sending emails to people who have accessed old Sharepoint sites in the past 30 days; telling me to make a note of the new url BELOW, then providing the old website addresses.

then they're telling me to call the division I work in (support)

....I guess that doesn't make me happy, huh?

What makes me happy?

Sleep/silence. Bagel Bites. and TP4. Not necessarily in that order.

i finally, AND SUCCESSFULLY, converted an old NT4 box to a fully functioning virtual machine.

i am stoked. i only have to do this 4 more times and we can retire these old servers that were purchased in 2002. it's a ****ing miracle they are still running now.

Heh, all five of our NT4 boxes were heavily used up until about a year ago, but we still need them for archive purposes.

We have a few Server 2000 boxes floating around; mostly just lesser-used file servers. Not to mention, our server room is a ****ing disaster. There's like 14 tower "servers", two rack servers (on a table), and a massive, non-functioning battery backup unit, in an area where brownouts are somewhat common.

It's kind of tough to make progress on project work when you are also the helpdesk...

Bought my ticket to see Huey Lewis and the News in July.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Worth the wait then?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

England won the Grand Slam  :p

Get #rekd France

I didn't know they play baseball in england?

Just remembered to reply to this.

I was talking about rugby. We have a tournament called the Six Nations where England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and France all compete in a group and play each other. The winner of the group overall wins the tournament, but you win the so called Grand Slam if you win every game. It was England's first Grand Slam in 13 years and we did it with a brand new coach after going out in the World Cup we hosted last year really early on, so it's looking promising for the future of English Rugby Union  :thumb:
