Ah... not everyone cares about clacks? just like not everyone likes top-ramen, even though there's a sizable following.

A lot of people with only MX will enter a draw to get MX or Topre, and if they end up with Topre they will trade for MX (or vice versa).

Some are just in it for the profit (sadly).

Some are in it to collect as many as possible.

Unfortunately I am not in the position of owning a Clack to say whether I would trade it or not, but probably not.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The fact that some people do put them up for sale at price or just slightly more (MMB is a special kind of guy) is amazing, and it's nice to think that collectors are willing to give a chance to the unlucky. For me it's like having a unicorn on my board, a unicorn I hunted for almost 2 years and whose skull I gave a nice acid bath and mounted in plastic on my Filco. So majestic.

I consider it to be extremely stupid to spend hundreds of dollars on an individual key cap, so I would not engage my self in the selling and/or trading of them either.

It would depend on which one I got. The 3D or Blue one I'd probably hold on to, but any other I'd consider trading.

My future Das Ultimate S, all modded up. For now, it's a bit more black.

but if they made it out of "solid gold"

Then I'd have even more excuse to invest. ;D

My opinion on this is that you cannot judge people buying these keys on the amount of money paid. They get these keys for their hobby. It's like any other collection. You will pay more than the item is worth to the eyes of the other.

So in the end it's up to you to decide if you are willing to pay for it or not. No reason to judge people on it. It can be sad in some way that some people will try to make money out of it, but it is the same as with any collectible, and even everything that is worth money (not talking about the artist but the ones who sell em after buying them). It's just the nature of things!

I have one hack orange Clack that I appreciate very much. It's staying on my keyboard (looks awesome on Scroll Lock). :D

I'm also probably not getting in on any more. Why hoard when others want some?

What a fella.
But seriously, i think i appreciate seeing collections like DangWang's or some others here on GH more than i would appreciate having them. But then again, i dont own a CC at all, so what i say means 0.
Some of these collections look so nice, but i'm just a happy spectator for now lol

You can buy the starwars figure it was based on and stem mod it.  Wouldn't take much effort really.

The classifieds are always filled with TRADE ONLY, so doesn't that only keep clacks circulating perpetually between the same select few? The only place where my 'large' sums of cash offerings are meaningless. But ya know, if you are looking to sell you know what to do  ;)
